Have just bought my second Civic - 2009 2.2 CDTi EXGT. Is in v good condition and was inspecting underneath today and noticed the twin exhaust pipes both divide into a Y just before they get to the rear "bumper".
One part of the Y exits through the triangular hole and the other part exits vertically. Simple question - Why?

I think you will find that the ones through the triangles are fake. As the Gen8 diesel didn't have a DPF to exit via the triangles would leave the back bumper black with soot.

Exhaust - "Fake" exhaust, with pics

Here are some pics of the "fake" exhaust. It looks like the exhaust exits from the triangle: But there's an exhaust underneath pointing down: In fact, to add authenticity to the fake, a small branch comes off the main exhaust and comes out of the triangle, so the triangle will smoke/steam...

lol so they're fake on the diesel version!!

Very much real on the 1.8 which surprises me slightly as the engine really has no need for dual exhausts, looks cool however.

The mk8 ticks two off my weird car check list, something with dual exhaust and a start button

there not exactly fake on the 2.2 they are connected to the main pipe
but the main exhaust (standard) does exit underneath the car out of sight
