Dealer (not a franchise) looking for 13,900 Euros for a 2008 Type S GT with 75k on the clock. I can get it for 12,500 trading in my 02 206.

The Type S is only available in the petrol versions in Ireland so the rare time that a diesel one shows up for sale its always a grand or two higher than a 5 door.

The mileage whilst a bit high for my liking, I realise is not too bad for a diesel engine. And I'll certainly be checking for clutch wear - is the trying to start the car in 4th gear a popular clutch test around here?

Well - I think - that if the car manages to take off in 4th the clutch is in fine shape. If it stalls then the clutch is in ok shape. If the car acts like an automatic or the clutch slips - then as we know the clutchis worn

Just something I read online recently.

I know about the driving up a hill in 6th at 2000rpm and then flooring it to test the clutch technique.

I don't know if car prices are higher in Ireland but that is extreme. I've just bought a 2008 1.8 EX with 40k on the clock, direct from Honda with 12 months warranty and a free service for £9k. Would it not work out cheaper to buy from UK and have it imported or go to a Honda dealer and have them sent on over FOC?

Sound advice about buying in NI or mainland GB

For Ireland, all you need to do is press the mph / kph button

And you'll save 000s

VRT (Import tax) on a car of that value/year would be roughly EUR 2000-2500. Need to factor that in if buying in the UK or up North
I thought that as both the UK and Ireland are in the EU(SSR) that there were no levies.

The price in sterling is £9960. I have to pay VRT of around 2,100 Euro - but the price for that is included in the cost of the car.

The dealer seems a very decent fella, he's giving me a good trade-in so I'm very tempted.
