Hello all
As a new year treat to myself I've decided to replace the head unit in my civic (2006+ shape) for something a little more feature rich and modern.
I'm on a budget of about £400 all in. Factoring in the cost of an impulse kit at £200 I've narrowed the selection down to two main choices + an "alternative":
1) JVC KW-AVX640
Pros: Best looking, no wires, looks easy to use, best interface
Cons: No BT, USB/iPod input is rear only, will have to drill holes somewhere in trim
2) Pioneer AVH-2300D
Pros: Front USB/iPod input, no need to drill holes, had a pioneer before and was happy with it
Cons: No BT, wires visible at times (although I'd mainly use a tiny USB drive), smaller screen
3) Eonen / Xtrons
Pros: Cheaper, or much more (BT, GPS) for same value, no need for mic wire for BT voice calls
Cons: Instructions likely to be lacking, not sure about retention of steering wheel control
Does anyone have any experience with any of the above? Would you recommend one over the other? Or a there better alternatives? I've seen similarly priced head units that include BT, but they all need a mic to be run somewhere and I can't face cluttering my dash with one!
My second dilemma is regarding fitting...on my budget I'm going to have to do it myself. The wiki here has good info on the "old" method of head unit replacement where you retain the exisiting unit in the glove box, but are there any guides to specifically fitting a head unit using the impulse kit? I'm looking mainly for detail on the necessary steps for trim/dash removal and also any info as to whether it is just "plug and play" or whether I'm likely to have to cut and solder anything?
Thanks in advance for any advice, and Happy New Year!
