My CD player on the OEM head unit has decided to start playing up, CDs (bought and self burned ones) are starting to skip and jump. Sometimes when I eject the discs they are red hot. Im going to buy a lens cleaner thingy or give it a blast out with a can of compressed air however if this does not work I think im going to save up a bit and maybe get a double din head unit. Ive been looking at a few and to be honest if I knew they were as cheap as they were I would have got one earlier.
The one I have seen is - Pioneer AVH-2400BT 5.8ins Headunit Touch Screen AV Tuner
It gets good reviews, looks nice and appears to do everything I want it to so my question is what else do I need?
Im not fussed about speaker upgrades, subs, amps etc just want the head unit and whatever is needed to make it work.
If the OEM unit can be fixed easily then im not that bothered but even second hand units are selling at around £100 so would rather pony up a bit more for something special.
Advice on the head unit is also welcomed, especially if anyone has one fitted or any other units that may be better for the same price (not looking to spend mega money)
Thanks :p

I'll keep you in mind if I can't get mine going, thanks.
I've got a connects2 for my iPod so can still have my own music, just nice to have a working cd player

Neither of the cleaning options has worked so I'm thinking its buggered :(
At least it gives me the excuse to go Down the double din route :D

best thing you can do mate is get rid of the awful stock unit and install an aftermarket one - I've just done the same and the difference is massive even with stock speakers.

Yeah I must admit I've never been impressed with the stock stereo.
I think I've narrowed it down to this pioneer one

Unless anyone suggests one better for a similar price

Looks good.

Front USB and aux port are the main things.

It would've been better to also have SD card slot
The bluetooth works great too.

I have the AVH3200BT

The only thing missing is an sd port I know, however have seen tiny USB drives and have an iPod ( which may end up defunct ) so not a major issue. Seen other units for more money without Bluetooth and phone capability so actually impressed with this unit.
I'm sure it'll do what I want and more

Indeed it will.

You will be amazed at the increase in....Well...Everything.
You will also be amazed how the stock speakers actually come alive when they have something (your new HU) decent to drive them.

Well head unit is bought, just awaiting delivery. I will be purchasing the fascia kit next week.
Does anyone have any opinions of which is better the connects2 or the impulse kit?
Looks, ease of fitting, extra functions etc?

*EDIT* just noticed the impulse kit is a connects2 Duh!

I would recommend you buy a reverse camera and wire it in while you have the dash to pieces - you can fit the camera another day. Also dont use screwdrivers to prise the trim up - you will mark it. Impulse sell the Bojo trim removal tool so get one of those.

I replaced my speakers recently, wasn't a great deal of improvement. Huge difference when I replaced the head unit with the Honda speakers though.

It's the functionality of the new head unit that will blow you away.

I used a plastic spatula as a trim removal tool - difficult in places but it works!

+10000 for wiring the camera whilst the unit is out. I am not looking forward to getting back behind mine to do that.

I broke my spatula!
Mine has been demoted from the kitchen after its use in the car - the Mrs doesn't trust it

Thanks for the advice, I've had the dash apart already when I fitted the connects2 iPod adapter. As for reversing cameras I drive and have driven a lot of vans so am used to using mirrors etc and I'm not a massive lover of that type of technology in the car. I appreciate what your saying though, whilst the dash is apart and all that ;)
Thanks again

Up to you but now is the ideal time to buy one otherwise you will have to remove the centre console and dash to fit one later.

The camera is a great feature, I use it often and is far more use than mirrors reversing into the garage, tight parking spaces etc. Bet after a few weeks of it being fitted, you will change your mind. Mine only cost £12 and is excellent.
