Yo how is everyone?

I'm finally happy to say I have bought and been able to insure a CTR. I got a FN2 from the north as the southern plates were all a bit too much money especially the way the ep3's are going, and also since its a daily the FN2 seems to be a much nicer cockpit then the ep3.

This examples needs a bit of loving but seems to be a solid enough base, also only got 70k miles which is nothing for a Honda so kind of swayed me.

who else is here form Ireland still rocking a CTR?

what year is it, can't tell with NI plates?

I can't understand them either, but its a Jan 2008, couldn't go any later as in Ireland they change the tax rate halfway through that year. It's an extra 550 to tax it for the same car, otherwise I would have went for a CW one haha

Yeah I picked her cause she's a clean one haha! She'll need the clutch changed eventually as I believe it's the one from factory and it's to the floor, also got the clicking subframe but other then that she's clean!

Very nice car buddy I like it. I've got the 2.2tdci. Starting to debate getting the Type R

I'd completely recommend getting it if you don't need the extra mileage from the 2.2! I moved from a 2.2 Mazda which is Abit of a guzzler if you have a happy right foot but I can still get about 36mpg if I'm sensible in this, if I drove the Mazda sensible it would be about 42mpg 😅 but here in Ireland it's mainly b roads with a mix of a roads so it does help my case haha

To be honest I dont do a lot of mileage. What do you think is faster? The 2.2 with a stage 1 remap or the type R? Might sound like a silly question but i think my civic has about 190BHP and around 400Nm torque

I haven't driven the honda 2.2 but my mazda 2.2 was about 150 stock around the same 400nm of torque but the way they drove is completely different, took a long time for that small turbo to kick after changing gears but was nice when it did, but having constant power and having that 8k redline is just music! The mazda would die after 3.5k revs, what would yours top out at, cause those extra few k's of revs will make a fair bit of difference to your 0-60times, it is the formula that honda thought for years was the winner. also i believe the type r would have a higher final drive which would help it. I had an astra opc before the mazda with 280bhp and 400nm that was real fun I would recommend you drive one of them if you want to stick to a fast turbo for similar money, but I will say they do not have reliability of a honda, plus trying to get a clean example is impossible here in Ireland anyway. Mine ended up blowing its 3rd cylinder and was unfeasible to even source a secondhand one

ireland is a lovely place never been southern ireland but been northan ireland a few times always for road racing or rallying
you are so lucky over there to have so much quality motorsport on your doorstep most weekends

Aye down here in the south we love the rallying, but sadly road racing doesn't happen as much as it does in the north, something to do with the event insurance being ridiculous I believe, If your into rallying I would recommend attending the rally of the lakes in Kerry at some point its only an hour and abit away from me but used to be the best rally in Ireland before Donegal was, scenery is about on par, maybe abit nicer down in Kerry, but the roads are worse haha so makes for challenging tracks

i live close to m-sport and a few friends have worked there so a close connection to rallying its by far the best form of motorsport apart from pure road racing
currently helping a friend rebuild a genuine pro drive impreza but thats a long term thing all parts are there its just time which we both have little to spare

damn that sounds amazing! have always loved the scoobies! ever since a sat in a friends one and felt it grip and just through your head back, but I couldn't live with the maintenance issues of it ever day. His one was also more hungry for oil then any of my brothers old honda's and toyota's! but they are fantastic cars once you can handle all of that, you cannot beat the sound of one with unequal length manifolds! I agree to Rallying is a great form of motorsport, but its crazy money to get into, so i just track my cars up in Mondello seems to be alot easier on the car and the wallet haha. my friend has an old escort with an s2000 engine for rallying and its a absolute hoot to drive!

I'll be honest Scar, it doesn't take long for my car to build boost but you can tell the delay. I have about 4.5k revs max lol.

It's stage 1 mapped, EGR delete and blanking plate, custome exhaust, Front mounted intercooler with all the solid boost pipes, DIY intercooler water jets(stole the idea from when i sat in my colleague's scooby), induction kit.
I am yet to find a type R next to me at the lights so I can race it. I've raced one on the motorway once and felt like it was pretty even but I think as you said, once the type R is at the higher revs then it'll pull away from me.

"Yeah but does she boo though" 🤣 surely with that spec you could get her to 220bhp? I saw one for sale here with that sort of spec pushing 220, did consider having a look at it but I'm not much of a fan of diesel car's tbh. Do the water cooler jets help with temps? Would you track it with that set up?
The motor way would be the weakest battle for the type r as well because of the lack of torque but yeah once she comes up to the power she might pull then alright.

To be honest buddy I haven't put the car on a dyno so thats my next plan to see exactly what power it's pushing. I'll be honest I wasn't a fan of diesel. This is my first diesel and I'm pretty impressed how Honda designed it. Not happy with the turbo at the back of the engine as I would have definitely messed with it if it was easily accessible.
The water cooler gives a slightly noticeable difference on the motorway but I dont think it was worth the faf to be honest.
It's got 151,500 miles on the clock so I'm not too sure if I want to track it.
I'd love a type R right now but I really want to save up for the FK8.

Aye I'd definitely want to see what it hits alright! Would be funny to see it on track but I would worry about the turbo with that mileage and giving it a thrashing on the track. They are only made for mileage munching anyway. I have driven a fair share of the NA Hondas, would like a go even to be driven in a turbo one, I would say it would be a complete different animal! The fk8 would be a dream though! Are you set on the fk8 or is there another devil on your shoulder as well?

Just putting it out there that the FN2 is a very nice Type R, Naturally aspirated Vtec howl, timeless looks, and all the modern toys you need. The FK8 is awesome though!

Couldn't agree more! I always thought it got a bad rep! I actually prefer the way it handles to the ep3 which would be something that not a lot of people would agree with, alot more predictable

Also I think the stock vs stock, the way the vtec is mapped and kicks feels better on the fn2, but the weight of the car let's it down that bit compared to the ep3

I'd love to see what it hits too and lol thats the only problem I dont want the turbo to give up with the mileage it's already done. I'd love to buy a type R right now but I'm set on the FK8. I want something bigger in size next and power with 5 doors and stay jap and the FK8 ticks all the boxes but it'll be a good few years before I get it.

Have you looked at the fk2? It's Abit cheaper for the same thing as the fn2 but faster and 4 doors

Yes I've looked into the fk2 and it is a lot of car for the money but I like the independent rear axle on the FK8 and the shape and design

Yeah if you want the independent rear it's the one you have to go for alright! I like them both equally haha once mapped and a fast road set up I've seen them to eat exotics around the track.

I need to start seriously saving up to be able to afford an FK8. Especially with the modifications in mind. Air suspension, map, exhaust, intake, wheels. I need another job lol. Expensive dreams. I've seen turbo ep3's selling for around £13,000 with 400BHP

I'd feel like bagging a type r would ruin it tbh, I have never been in a car on bags though so can't fully comment on how it makes the car handle. I think I need a second job aswell, mad to stick a k24 in this haha thats more then what they use to go for, everything is going up now for sure
