Just last month bought a second hand 2006 1.3 civic.
Had no problems for the first week but now I have all the following error messages lit on the dash:
Engine management light
EPS
VSA
Brakes
Airbag light
ABS
ALSO - the speedometer, rev counter and engine temp all fail and show at 0.
This problem is sporadic, doesnt happen all the time but generally happens when starting from cold and they all disapear after about 30 mins driving (apart from engine management light which stays on). Havent noticed any other patterns to when its happening.

The garage can find nothing wrong, and because the lights dont stay on constantly they cant fully test the vehichle.

I have ruled out problems with the alternator and the relays - they're all fine.

Bit of a loose end, wondered if anyone had heard of anything similar happening?

Did the garage plug a diagnostic computer in to read any stored fault codes?

Have you had any work done on your car recently? I once had a 'Christmas tree' dashboard after having a Multiplex replaced.

No but I don't know about the previous owner though.
Just before the problem I was trying to remove the dash (didn't get very far, just pulled on the panel a bit and then gave up when it didn't immediately come off) so I don't know if I've caused the problem, no obvious wires hanging and like I said, relays are all fine :s

I was thinking that but I checked the vaults and they were ok, I know that suggests the alternators ok but could it still be the battery?

Sounds like the battery not holding charge or the alternator not giving it.
Do you keep the car above 1500rpm ?

I will try the sweep test and go and get the battery checked! It could be the battery needs replacing as I only just bought the car so I don't know how long it was stationary at the garage for! Thanks for all your help :)

Had a similar problem after my multiplex was replaced, I suspect a loose connection.

Did you get anywhere with this? My 2007 Type R has started behaving in a similar way. Warning light for check system (Emissions) on constantly. Randomly warning lights for ABS, Airbag, VSA etc come on and temperature guarge, digital speedo and rev counter all hit zero. Then randomly it sees jump back into action. Very frustrating.
I would suggest there is nothing mechanically wrong.
It makes my heart sink when I ever I get in it.
It not the battery as this is very healthy. The sweep test works perfectly also.

Just checked VOSA site - didnt even know about the recall - it would certainly fit ie damage to the wiring loom causing the electronic gremlins im seeing. I shall get it checked out - and it may even be fixed for free! Result. Thanks

Finally got this fixed!
If anybody else is suffering similar problems get the cars earth checked. My earthing bolt was broke. A simple replacement and the car is back to working order.
Thanks to Honda Shrewsbury!
