Hi went halfords today to upgrade my bulbs, but on the drivers side they've pulled the bulb holder/ socket from the headlamp. Is this a case of just removing the headllight and folding the tabs in red over. And should halfords carry out the repair free of charge. As its bumper off, to remove headlight.

To do that they must have pulled the bulb instead of unclipping it first. Its Halfords job to repair it as far as im concerned. I think your diagnosis for repair is pretty much spot on, but how you can manage that with out removing the headlight glass in the first place is anyone's guess.

When I worked, all the company cars, supplied by Inchcape, regardless of make were serviced at Halfords.

The number of mistakes and damage they caused was a worry. Normal basic service, oil and filters, OK, but anything extra they often couldn't cope, but tried anyway, and a main dealer visit was needed.

Same goes for most of the non specialist places like Kwik Fit and the like. The basics they can just about manage, but anything a bit more technical I wouldn’t waste my time as it would only have to be put right elsewhere.

In fairness main dealers mess things up too - disappointingly they are no guarantee of better service :(
