Moving from a 9th gen civic with manual handbrake to a 10th gen with an electronic handbrake and the only thing that is worrying me is hill starts.
Do you just use the brake hold function ?

You don't HAVE to use Brake Hold.
The 'handbrake' comes on and stays on for about 10 seconds automatically after you take your foot off the footbrake. If however you dally longer than about 10 seconds fannying around with your foot off the brake, the car will then roll backwards.
If you have Brake Hold on, it will sit there as long as you want with your foot off the brake.
I always run with Brake Hold on and can see no reason why not to. It takes the strain out of fiddling with a 'so last century' stick thing that in olden days they called the handbrake.
The main pain is that you have to switch it on every time you start the car. You will soon get confidence in it, but it takes a little while.

Note: All the time the car is braked by brake hold, the brake lights are on and if you are concerned about dazzling the driver behind, just switch the handbrake on.

However. I did wonder how it works. but now I know.
What I do know is that it 'just works'.
