Ive noticed my car was making a sucking/hissing/electrical sound this morning. It was happening roughly every every 60 seconds a few minutes into the drive to work. The climate control was on at the time so it may have something to do with that. You could hear the noise quite clearly and seemed to come from the front of the engine. I was driving at 30mph just cruising along and not accelerating.

When I was a couple of minutes from reaching home this evening I turned the climate control off to see if the hissing would stop and it seemed too. It was only a couple of minutes so maybe a coincidence. I also have a K&N panel filter in the air box. No turbo as the cars a FN2.

I wonder what could be wrong?

take your pollen filter out of its housing and give it a clean out, its probably the filter housing full of dried leaves..

I changed my filter during the summer and sucked out all the leaves I could find with the thin nozzel of a vacuum. I doubt there's anymore in there. Also the sucking/hissing sound lasts for couple of seconds and dies down.

This sounds like something similar i had after a service, it turned out the service lid of the pollen filter in the footwell wasnt closed properly.
edit: On second thought, i dont think that the pollen filter is located there, it was some sort of filter that got blown out after a while.

It is the aircon compressor. Mine does the same, makes a hissing noise. As you say if you switch off the aircon it does not do it.
