When I get enough money together after purchasing and FN2 I'm going for a HKS RSK intake.

I have read people use heat shields. I understand claims are reduced intake temperatures especially when idling.

Does any one have datalogs or proof of reduced IATs?

Simply, I can't see it helping that much.

Once the car is idling in traffic the whole engine bay will heat quickly and warm not only the shield but the surrounding air anyway. Then when on the move the shield may act as a small barrier to air coming from under the filter, from under car through gearbox and steering arm area.

I imagine the shield would help, when fitted the filter is above the exhaust manifold. The shield does fit nicely.

Personally don't have one and don't intend to spend 40+ quid on one either. Ive been stopped in long tale backs before and although I have noticed the car is a little less responsive I don't think heat soak is as a big deal as people with airboxs/cai/Gruppe M make it out to be.

Put it this way.

your stuck in traffic and you've lost ~10bhp due to hear soak. Do you need 10 bhp more when stuck in traffic???

And even if people want to say "but when your stopped at lights you will still suffer heat soak". As soon as your moving the effects are gone.

You would be better spending the money on a driven scoop or some cheap air duct from eBay and make your own cold air feed.

I should have mentioned I had HKS RSK on my last FN2 with no shield and didn't experience issues sat idling. Although it was a weekend car and I rarely got stuck in traffic.

I thought that it MAY be worth a heat shield this time round.

Mine a daily and had an rsk for a year now, personally don't think its worth it but it's your choice.

And it sits above the gearbox not the exhaust manifold.

Can't be too bad, just don't floor it if you have sat car still for a while. Move off and flow some air first.
Lots of caterhams have filters open next to engine too as standard.

Ps. Some supercharged civics don't have any coolers, now they hit real high intake temps.

Neither is the filter directly above it.

the heatshields make a barrier between the filter and back/side of the engine, but even when I've been stuck it traffic in the summer and felt the car to be less responsive, does it matter if your stuck in traffic anyway?

People make more of a fuss about heatsoak than is needed, as if you need that extra 10-20bhp sat in traffic.

A few of you have replied to say there is no real problem without the heatshield (including the op) so I guess all is good. When I had an rsk mine came with a free heatshield so I put it on, don't know if I'd shell out much for one tbh. Happier with my gruppe m though.

I've got a heatshield in mine Lee-Jay and am soon having a Driven Crazy Scoop fitted too. A member on here did some datalogs with both of these extras fitted for his RSK and the difference above ambient temperature was not much once on the move. I've never experienced much heat soak with my set-up and I'm hoping the scoop will help get plenty more air in.

They seem to be almost entirely pointless and I haven't noticed any issues with heatsoak in the past couple of years with an RSK

When I bought my CTR it had the HKS already on it. When I changed the filter I added the heat shield as the previous owner had left it off. To be totally honest I noticed no difference, but I did spend a whole day polishing it to a mirror finish so looks cool.

It seems many don't have issue including me in the past... But if datalogues support lower temps I will add one with the kit!

Does flashpro record intake temps?

today i was using the torque app, its not accurate, but i was seeing intake air temps of 35-40 degress when stationary for a few minutes and 20-25 degrees on the move.

no idea how accurate these figures are though, cant imagine they are as reliable as a flashpro data log.
