For anyone that would like to improve the performance of their Honda connect unit (I imagine that will be everyone!) or experiencing strange issues, I present the RC8 Update!

This fixes a large number of the niggles you may have been experiencing, and further optimises the unit, so it should be a little more responsive (In my experience anyway.)

If your car is under warranty, It's (probably) far easier for you to get it done at the dealership - It is covered in the service bulletin below, so just go in and ask and they will sort it out for you.

Note: Installing this update will clear all data from the unit, and prevent installation of third party apps by any means - I will update you if this changes!

Warning: You must read the instructions carefully! If you perform the update incorrectly, you can and will irreparably brick the unit

The list of issues addressed in each version:

My car, New from the dealership March 2017 had RC4, so I imagine anyone with a 9G can benefit from RC8 - Released only a few months ago at time of writing.

Looks like you are the lucky winner!
When did you last have it serviced? they may have updated it.
It's a reasonable general update to be honest:- I wasn't having any problems, just a mediocre experience - RC8 has sped it up a fair bit.

I’m going to my local dealer tomorrow for the RC8 update if they have managed to receive the disc.

I don’t suppose you could go into your Android settings and confirm the Build Number for me please could you?

Thanks in advance.

Do you need all the files or just some of them for the RC8?
Can you update via sub or disc?

You need the right files relevant to your specific version of Honda Connect, using the look-up table attached to the bulletin and the 4 digit unit ID.

Install the wrong version and you will be un-able to recover the unit and will have to replace it as you cant roll back the software or over install another version.

As Steve rightly says, very carefully read over the instructions and select the files to flash using the matrix provided:- It's around 1.4GB In total (IIRC), so it shouldn't take you too long to download everything if you have decent internet; If not, have a look at the Matrix under documentation and download the data files that you need.

Have you managed to find the software version?
The ID Code is, as on the Service bulletin, located to the left if you press the CD eject button - This will fold the unit forward revealing the code:

If you have the software version and the code, then we can get the software that you need.
As before, have a look through the service bulletin, and just follow step by step and you shouldn't run into too much trouble.

That's the 3rd Civic Entry, And you've got 00.cb and 01.083, so you need to start the instructions from step 10 - The update stage 1.
That gives you the following files to use:

Cheers I've done the update all is working as it should!wasn't too bad to do just step by step like you said, just a bit scary when it keeps saying wrong files used will result in unit needing replaced! Will I need to add the speed camera cyclops alerts again via the map update?
Or will they be on still.
Thank you again mate

Nicely done!
I imagine the GPS files will be unaffected, as you're working on the android subsystems - however, you never know! If you dig around in the settings on the Garmin you can check the map version; If that checks out I imagine you'll have your speed cameras too - Test it before you go on a naughty telling off speed run though!

Hey buddy.

Thanks for sharing the files, it's appreciated and saves me badgering the dealer.
In fact I'm sat in the car now, engine running staring at the H logo which had now just switched to the progressential bar going through step 3 :)

My R has 6CV5 as the radio code and didn't need the 31.00CF Audio file according to the step by step, so went straight to step 22.

Hi there
We've got OE:094:00:1123 which is RC6 as far as we know on our 2016 CRV.
Those with RC8 installed, do you find that Bluetooth hft is better? Only reason for asking is that every so often ours just disconnects the Bluetooth hft and won't reconnect until you turn off the engine and restart the whole system. Just shutting down the Connect system makes no difference and switching Bluetooth off and on on phone makes no difference.
Today as well, we were driving along and tried to ring someone, using voice control. Full signal shows on screen. Phone at other end rings. No answer, so switch off using steering wheel controls. They then ring us. Answer call and switch off. Then find can't make another call as when you use voice command, person comes up then it just closes down.
Oh, phone is LG G4 running Android 6, Marshmallow.
Thanks
Peter

Has anyone noticed that in the table with the file matrix it says RC9? Not RC8 as described in the bulletin above...

Hi there
Just a bit of info.
Car been into dealers today for service and they updated the software on the Connect system to RC9. Told it is more fixes, especially for iPhones.
Hey ho, but at least mirrorlink now works ..... hurrah! Hopefully Bluetooth will be better.
Regards
Peter
