Sorry for the forthcomming rant, but this is something you all should be aware of.

I took my car in for some warranty work (new clutch) and mentioned that there was rust on the tops of the doors.

The car was purchased 3 months ago as a Honda approved vehicle with an extended 2 year warranty.

The Dealer fixed the clutch and then set about looking at the rust.
Honda UK then requested paint readings from all over the car.
(all reading panels between 180 t0 195 which would suggest reparative work to the whole vehicle, potentially in the factory)

Honda UK then came back and stated that they would not repair the rust.
I called Honda UK to find out what the issue was, in thier words, the car had had extensive reparitive work and the 12 year anti corrosion warranty was void.

this is strange as i know the previous owner had not had any paint work done as they were a Friend of one of my friends, and before that i believe it was owned by Honda themselves.

At the time of purchase i insisted in writing from the dealer that I had in writing that the vehicle was genuine and if it wasnt i was legible to a full refund, as at the time it was having its plates changed and the HPI check was not current with the plate change.

So I have invoked the money back guarentee.......we will see how that goes.

I Love the car in general, It drives fantastically, but the poor thing is that I have had a very bad experience with Honda regarding this car, from start to finish(which i hope will be soon).

How do they ever intend to keep customers if they wont stand by the guarentee of an approved vehicle or treat customers with such contempt.

I have had multiple Nissans over the years and never had this sort of trouble, or experience such poor build quality.
When this is sorted im back to nissan (350z or r34gtr)

Sorry to rant, but you all may be driving cars that you think has a corrosion guarentee, but doesnt....

Don't blame you having a rant, I would do the same.

I've only ever used my Which? legal membership once (non car related) and a letter crafted by them was sufficient to get satisfaction almost immediately.

I have in writing from the dealer " We guarentee all of our used cars through the Honda approved scheme and if there are any discrepancies relating to the cars mileage and/or history then you are entitled to walk away with a full refund"

I insisted on this before i parted with any monies

Its their loss as you say.
Hope you find a decent car and dealer....and hate to say it ...manufacturer

I take it there has been no history of crash damage and the car rolled or anything like that

No history of crash damage, HPI clear :worms:

The dealer has been really supportive

And the service dept at the dealer recons the paint work is OEM

but this has really taken the shine off my new pride and joy

if the car as ever been painted trust me you would know if you knew what you was looking for,you will always see where they have used the foam edge/masking tape get a second opinion from an accident repair center and if they say yes its been repaired in the past then ask for a refund and tell them you have informed trading standards.

Reading the OP it looks like the whole car (every panel) is affected.

If so then I would also suspect the telltale signs of old meeting new, especially in door and boot areas.

I had a friend of mine who works in the auto repair/paint reparation gave it a look over.
He reconed that the paint was done in the factory as there are no transition/masking lines anywhere.

Either that or whoever did it was very good and removed/replaced all of the oem stickers and Vin plate. The Vin plate shows no sign of having been tampered with

I bought an approved used Honda, HPI clear was told it was never involved in an accident.

Found old masking tape inside the door panels, independent body shop confirmed it had had some panels resprayed. not happy with the dealers but they don't care.

I had some chips touched up at a local paint shop and was told by them that the bonnet had been previously resprayed. He tried to point out the telltale marks but personally I couldn't see a thing. It was obvious to the paint shop though. As you've had two paintshops, including the Honda dealer, look at it and neither saw signs of a respray it seems pretty clear cut to me.

I think you have little choice and it has to be rejected and go back as you have been told you no longer have the 12 yr corrosion warranty.

HondaUK generally go on the info supplied to them by the dealer as they rarely investigate a car personally.

= give the dealer the car back.

Some dealers are a right pain and Honda UK always say we will wait for the dealers report which they go by, if you have a pain of a dealer who can't be bothered they give Honda a feeble report which they will then decline warranty, thing is it will then be on hondas records of being rejected, all because of a rubbish dealer.

Not had a single good dealing with a Honda dealer except Cox's.
I have even gone as far to warn my company away from buying Honda for our fleet cars due to this poor service.
If only they had responded positively when I had a complaint they would probably have sold 40 Civics/Accords more this quarter.

I too agree with Honda dealers customer service been very bad, they will lie through their back teeth to get out of an issue. It really is appauling as i have had Toyota's for years and never had reason to visit (other than a service), complain or argue with the dealer due to issue's with the product, then i bought a Honda and what a mistake it was:(.

The car has been back in on numerous occasion's for issue's and each time i have been filled with rubbish by the dealer. How do Honda expect to get repeat custom from people when their dealers rub customer's up the wrong way i don't know. Approved used Honda my

I keep a car for years so continuos servicing would have been theirs too but if i get no joy this time it's going after a year, proper had enough, and i am convinced they will blatantly lie again.

All the best with the issue by the way.
