Took a 59 FN2 out today, the guy put £8 fuel in it but it didnt move the fuel gauge at all, fuel light stayed on and there was a little "i" on the top dash, is this symbol normal for when the fuel is low ? I would of thought the fuel light was sufficient and didnt need another light ?

If the fuel warning symbol was showing in the centre of the lower dash (in the middle of the rev counter), then that little I on the dash is also showing that it was low on fuel

Yes, the i just indicates that there is a message to view in the rev counter, in this case low fuel.

just for the record, whenever that 'i' is lit up, if you press the 'i' button on the steering wheel it shows you whats wrong
