Hi All,

This is my first post.... so be gentle ;)

I've recently purchased a 16 plate Sporty blue Honda SE Plus Nav 1.6 Diesel.

I have a vibe black death subwoofer I want to know is it possible to wire to the original head unit? or would I need to buy a new CD player?

if I need a new CD player will all features still work if I get a double din.... such as sat nav, phone book, reverse camera.

Thanks in advance

hi there and welcome, dose your car already have sat nav as standard? and is the subwoofer that you want to install have a built in amp? if it has a built in amp or you want to install a amp and subwoofer, you could do it with your standard head unit, you would just have to buy a high to low converter which are cheap as chips, and that would not affect the rest of the functions of your head unit,

Hi

Yes it does have the garmin sat nav included.

i have the vibe black death 12" which has a built in amp.

Will it effect the proformance of the sub with the high/low converter ?

The high to low convertor, basically once installed gives you rca leads outputs that will go into your amp, should not affect the proformance off your sub, but with all sound systems it depends on how heavy you want your bass and how clear you want your sound to be, dose your OEM head unit have a built in eq or just bass, treble and fader?

i run a vibe 2way LOC into a seperate amp - no noticable quality loss or quality issues.
i chose 2way as i only listen to music and use a RCA splitter to split it down for my front & rear amp feeds.
honda connect HU with factory speakers. I've essentially just thrown in a 5ch amp between the 2, as the system didnt like powering the speakers and LOC in parallel together.

if you go for aftermarket HU and keep all the existing features, i think i ended up at between £250-300 just for the various boxes for iMID, wheel controls, HFT, rear camera, parking sensors etc. i didnt get as far as seeing if it supported things like the parking dynamic guide lines or the MPG/info screen. £300+amps+decent HU+RCA's would of resulted around £1k for what i fancied and i just couldnt face that cost when the factory system is perfect for me now it has some much added bass.

didnt all the non-typeR 9th gen's allow for factory fitted sub? for the effort and time you'll spend, it could be worth looking into that option. i wish they had it as an option for the CTR.

I think its just bass treble and fader.

Its a 16 plate car.

I have the vibe black death already and it has a built in amp.

I dont really want to change the head unit. Just want some extra bass.

In my old honda civic 2.2 cdti i had it wired to my factory headunit only thing is it use to make loud thuds and like static coming through. Even when headunit was off and it was hardly like i had a subwoofer installed.

Just want this sub fitted but get full performance out of it.

So what options do i have?

1. Invest in a highlow converter and get an audio place to fit it?

Thanks lee

Hi Lee,
Afraid I can't offer too much advice other than the place to get your converter is eBay. I bought one to fit my vibe cbr10 to my insignia but never got round to it. I enquired at a local ice shop and they quoted £100 just to fit! I now have a 16 plate civic tourer so will watch this with interest. Let's face it, the stock speakers are rubbish!
There are some YouTube videos on fitting a converter, but it's a pretty big job, at least a day for an amateur and it involves removing best part of the dash and internal side trim to hide the wires to the sub.
If I do grow some and have a go I'll try and document it for posting for others to follow.

Matt

Thought I'd do a bit of research, found a 9th gen subwoofer fit video. Interesting watch, but leaves me thinking if the shop charge £100 fitting, then they can do it! Link below.
