Evening. For the last few months the instrument panel lights have been randomly filckering on and off. If the stay off then a slight nudge of the dimmer dial will bring them back to life. I though it may be a problem with the dimmer dial potentiometer but I bought a second hand one and that has the same problem although I suppose that could also be faulty. Does anyone have any idea as to what the fault could be? Thanks

Thats true. Cant really think what it could be as it only takes a very minor tap on the dimmer switch to cause the flicker. I actually opened up my original dimmer potentiometer to see if there was something obvious but TBH I dont really know what I would be looking for.
I'm thinking about bypassing the dimmer so as the cluster is always at full but I cant seem to find a pin out for the cluster connector

I searched online a lot and found that another guy on a different car had the same problem and he disconnected the battery pols rubbed them on the inside and the problem was fixed. I did the same and post the result.

Well I installed the replacement 2nd hand cluster using my original Dimmer dial and the cluster works fine so its not a fault with the dimmer like I thought. Really dont know what it could be.

Also to add a comment to my previous post. I found a youtube video with a guy that has a similar problem to ours. I sending the link of the video to check it out and tell me your opinion.

Also try to check if the problem exists in high rpm, because in my car the problem dissappears after 3500 rpm

Thank you

Thanks. I've watched that clip before but I think its a different problem. I did find this post

Its seems like exactly the same orobkem as ours but unfortunately the original poster had to send his panel away to get fixed. I have posted on the page to ask him if he was informed of the problem. A new instrument panel from Honda would cost a lot of money. I will look into the probkem more but I may just try and pick up another 2nd hand panel with mileage near to what mine is at and just swap them over

Im trying to get the PCB out of the panel to have a look at the LED that illuminates the rev counter but I can see a way to get it off. It would be usefull to have a diagram for the PCB as well

Hiya,
You might have seen the aggro I had a while ago now. It may be of use?

thanks. I took it out and resoldered all the joints round the dimmer pot. Didn't make a difference. I couldn't see anything dodgy looking on the board and for the sake of 30 I managed to get one off eBay with a very similar mileage.

I think the dimmer is a red herring and it's the fact that when you move it. Pressure is put on the board. I found pushing the surround brings it back temporarily as well.

am sure it's a dodgy connection on some component but replacements are so cheap these days it's not worth investing the time or sending it away

i have a problem with may car ,of the vechicle is off and after 10 or 15 sec cluster starts to do flickering thing does anybody has any idea whats that . My battery is bit old does that could be the reason.

Just had this problem come in on a car. After a bit of prodding around we found the problem to be the two MOSFET's on the back of the instrument cluster. Gave them a quick reflow and added a bit more solder (from the back of the board, no need to take the needles off the Speedo, fuel etc. You can just lift the board up enough to see if you've got solder on the legs of the MOSFET's and making good connection with the board then put back together and test. Took five/six minutes to get all six legs reflowed/soldered sufficiently and the flickering has all gone. This fault is NOT the potentiometer like one would assume. It is the two MOSFET's. Easy to spot because they're both attached to heatsinks, just go steady when soldering. I've circled them in red. Hope this helps some folk out!

I have a 2008 Honda Civic hybrid. The upper instrument cluster display (speedometer, fuel gauge and engine temp) flickers and sometimes is so dim you can’t see anything. After months wondering what to donand contemplating finding used one online, I found this thread and thought to myself finally I might have an answer. But after reading most of the comments I wasn't sure how to proceed. Then I recall one of the comments suggested a loose connection and so I reached out and firmly pressed the upper part of the display and it worked! When I stopped pressing the display then the flickering resumed depending on if the car was moving or not. For my specific example, what likely is the problem and how do I fix it? Pressing the display while driving is not ideal.

Hi all! Bought a used 2011 Civic that came with this issue (among several others) and tried a couple of things before embarking into removing the gauges and checking the front of the board. Sure enough it was one of the legs of one of the MOSFETs - not enough solder and it looked cracked. Re-soldered it, reassembled and all seems to be working fine!

Hi there!
I have dismantled my front car panel and took out the cluster light panel.
From what I understood, I need to re-solder the MOSFET (likely) or anything that looks suspicious. But how do I get to the front of the board?

I am a total beginner in this, so I can only attach a photo. If you could edit it and draw a few lines on what to do and where, I think I can try =)

Also, how did you assemble it back?
