my renewal dropped through the door 5 mins ago and what a fright

it has jumped from £400 last year to £610  another year claim free has been rewarded with a £210 increase , needless to say i have already phoned the GREEN INSURANCE COMPANY and told them to ram it when the policy expires on the 29th

just had a nice quote of £350 online

It's shocking that.

My renewal from admiral came in last month which was £740 which is almost exactly what I paid last year. I got a quote from elephant for £560 so I phoned up admiral and since elephant are their sister company they matched it.

Annoying that they can't just give you a good quote to begin with

There's been a few stories in the press about "passively" renewing insurance, whether for cars or houses, on the assumption that because the company was offering a good deal three or four years ago it still is. And it can be interesting to get an on-line quote from the company you're with to see how that compares with what you're paying already. I shop around myself for house & contents cover, but still get a good car cover deal through the insurance brokers I've been with for 40 years.

And I'm not too sure about price comparison websites, which get a commission off listed companies. Spot a good deal on one and then check direct with the insurer.

Good stuff Ross, glad you got it sorted!

Elephant normally double, yes DOUBLE my premium every year when they send me the letter out
+1

Admiral raised my premium by £400 when I came to renew. One 5 minute phone call to them and they mircaulously managed to drop it by £600.

Unfortunatly some people are obviously stupid enough to just accept the raise and pay it which is why the insurance companies try it on.

Glad you found a cheaper alternative: I was unable to when my insurers jacked mine up, albeit by less than £100.

Unfortunately ever-increasing insurance premiums seems to have dropped out of the news of late. I recall a while back there was a drive (no pun intended) in parliament in favour of greater regulation to curb careful drivers being hit with year-on-year increases.

I find they give you these quotes because there are lazy people out there who will just agree to it and not bother looking around

A speculative quote last month from the insurer I'm using now showed over £100 less. the renewal came through and its £200 more!
They're still the cheapest I can find unless I pay greenlight upfront so i'm stuck.

I can see why some people dont even bother with insurance. The prices these companies charge are totally unjusified and the attitude is they're doing YOU a favour.

Direct Line do that every year to me. I seem to recall last year's initial quote went from £430 ish to £680 ish

Always have to phone them to cancel after I've obtained alternative quotes, and they always just undercut the cheapest.

I'm considering NFU Mutual next year as they consistently come out top on the Which? customer satisfaction survey.

I think my last two renewals doubled in price yet when going on comparison sites managed to get quotes cheaper than I was actually paying .

Its getting beyond a joke, its like lets reward your years claim/points free motoring by taking £300-400 extra from you

Mine is £590! 12 years clean record too. but i guess its the price we pay for modified cars.

I was looking forward to turning 25 as it goes down. 4 years later im still paying £590.

The lowest ive paid was for my modded EP2, in 2009 it was £400.
