Provided you get your own no claims discount I would say get 4-5 years under your belt. Then you could get a type r insurance at a decent cost. I'm 33 9 years no claims it cost me £360 ish.

You could now but itll be mad money.

Depends where you live predominantly as a massive factor (after age and gender) no idea what sheffields like insurance wise i know there is a list somewhere of low insurance places etc.

When you get to about 21ish your still going to be looking around £2000 for a type r im 21 my type s is £660 (with a couple people on it) but me as named driver with business mileage but i have 4 years ncb and 4 years exp but a type r would still be around £1500 for me with others on it

Oh and as soon as you change car and you havent had "experience in that car" your premium rises even changing to the same model same age same engine!

Just looking around for insurance myself, I will be 25 by the time I renew it with 7 years no claims. Some companies want crazy money though. Just listed a couple of results for myself

LV = wont cover under 30's for a Type R
Tesco = £1807
Admiral = £806.66 even though I paid £250 less with them last year
Direct line = £740
Aviva = £706
AXA = £619

Really all depends on where you live. I paid £1k for my insurance on my R this year, 23, 2 years NCB, 2 claims.

Im 20, can get insured now on a Type R for under a grand.

Have a 2.2 Civic Sport atm, under £700 fully comp. 1 Claim.

Admiral are your friend, depends heavily on postcode though.

Would say when your 20/21 you should start looking, most companies say 21 though.

I would refuse to drive around with a tracker. :police:

Thats also illegal and called fronting, if you are infact the main driver. Bad move tbh.

Always had my cars in my own name with parents as named drivers, not other way round. Also seems to be cheaper.

I've had a quote for when I renew in December (I will be 23, 4 years NCB) for about 700 quid. Admiral are the best by far, especially if you can get a multi-car deal on the go.

I'd say around 21 is the age where it takes a decent drop in premium price.

well its been done for a year now and never had a problem, its cheaper to be second driver as i carnt get insured on my type S on my own name, i had an astra last year 1.4 5 door with " trims " and a quote on my own name was....£7500, ALSO WITH A TRACKER

if i went on my own name i would be paying 3 grand insurance for a 1000 pound 1L corsa like most of my friends are doing..
would rarther not drive, i build my own no claims as second driver to next year when i turn 19..

+1

Always had parents as named drivers on my policy though as it drops the price by quite a lot.

Definitely worth getting your own policy and building your own no claims. I've just turned 26 and have 8 yrs no claims now, insured fully comp with protected claims etc for £450 on my type-r. Thats with Sainsburys, over £100 less than what Admiral wanted on my renewal....
