Hi,

Have an FN2 and the air con intermittently works. When it does it is ice cold.

Anyway a local gargae manged to get some error codes :-

B2983 - AC/heater recirculation flap motor - malfunction
B1238 - AC/heater air mix flap motor, passenger - malfunction
B1240 - AC/heater air direction motor - malfunction

The relay was changed some years back for the later model but not sure if the gas has ever been recharged!

Also, does anyone know at what pressure the air con will shut off?

I've just had this with mine, re shimmed the condenser and now it doesn't fault at all.

Not too bad job to do and the bonus is you go no where near the pipes so no messing with gas. Cost me £2.67 so cheap fix.

Easy to check too if you have feeler gauges with engine off measure the gap between the compressor front plate and clutch. Gap should be between .35 and .65 mm mine was 1.2 mm so kept switch off when engine warm.

Mine switches on / off whether engine hot or cold. Is it easy to get to the compressor?

If you have access to a ramp yes , you could use small ramps or axel stands and lay on your back. The hard bit is holding the pulley still while undoing the nut, it's not really tight 22nm if I remember right . Used a bar and a spanner like in picture.

No ramp, no axle stands so probably take to a local garage and get them to have a checkvon the gap. Cheers for the advice.

To check the gap you can reach down into the engine bay

I'll get hold of a feeler gauge and give it a go!
