Hi everyone.

had an xcarlink installed for about a year now in my 06 2.2cdti ex...

it was working fine but then one day it suddenly stopped playing music.

the iphone charges, but I can hear a faint electrical 'clicking' from the xcarlink box when it stops working... click click.... click click... and so on.. like its trying to play but then fails and tries again.

the auxiliary headphone cable works fine, but if I use this I cant charge it and/or use my steering wheel controls.

I thought it might be a faulty cable so I replaced it with a new one today but still have the same problem...

anyone have any ideas before I tke the WHOLE dash out again and disconnect and reconnect everything

thanks xx

I have the xcarlink with optional bluetooth module, the main unit itself has USB.
I have this problem all the time with my unit. Got the clicking sound.
I emailed support and they said disconnect it and reconnect it, some kinda of software crash, or so they say. Apparantly the only way to reset it is to cut power to the unit for a few mins.

I've had to take apart dash about 5 times... Painfully annoying, it crashed recently and I just cant be bothered anymore, i just use it as a USB charger now, nothing else.

You can try and turn on and off the ignition a few times, disconnect the fuse for the radio, under the stearing wheel. I even unscrewed the unit and disconnected the cable on the end of the unit.
But the only way I can get it working is to disconnect the cable from the end thats attached to back of radio. Which makes you think its not a case of disconnecting power, but rather a loose cable. But I've made sure the cable is tight, and connector not loose, besides power is reaching the unit... so cable cant be lose.
Its almost like the radio itself has crashed, and it can still detect the cable, and it only resets if the cable is disconnected.

I am totally fed up with mine, far too cold/dark outside to take apart dash.
It worked fine for a year or two before this happened. After disconnectig it works maybe a week or two before it crashes again :(

tried all of the bove, still exactly the same. have taken it out and going to send back and ask for a refund. what a load of rubbish.
Many have reported this or other issues with the 'xcarlink' ...

On the other hand, I can't remember anyone having a problem with Dension ...

I have a Dension 300 - three input contacts \ cables :-
  • iPhone \ iPod \ iPad
  • USB (Stick or HDD)
  • 3.5mm Phono Jack

sweet as how much are they then? similar idea to xcarlink but they work right?
Similar, yes - all these things emulate a CD changer - the Dension unit (100 for pure "iThing" or 300 for everything) is installed behind the centre console, then you run the cable connections to wherever (usually the cubbyholes in front of and \ or behind the gear lever ...

And they work first time and every time ...

Cost - can't actually remember (£ 130 ?) - I bought from "ipodcarkitdirect" or something ...

Google is your friend ...
