Just bought my Type S, last owner middle aged lady, had a 3000 amp and bass speaker in the back, yeah i know, anyway is it just me or is the civic standard hifi crap.

Might just be me, but its pretty bad to be fair, maybe the reason the last owner put the current set up in, which will be taken out lol.

I also noticed the rear speakers in my 3 door aint working, is it possible they have hooked up off of the rears, i aint familiar with these cars yet hence why i ask.

My Audi A5 had a cracking Bang and Olufsen, an amazing system, the vx line i have currently has a Bose, so is unfair to compare with either but its pretty damn bad.

Yea the standard stereo is shocking, if fact id have to go back as far as my Mk2 Escort to find such a poor stereo. Weirdly enough Honda knew it was poor, or deliberately made it so poor, so they could sell buyers the £800 Bass Works Option. Does improve it noticeably, but when you think what you could add from someone like Pioneer or Alpine for £800 its not worth that money by a long way.

am kinda glad as thought it was actually goosed lol, ok when in cd or ipod with amp etc but still i prefer the rear speakers to work. Think they may have took a feed or something, will need this sorted asap, looks like panel will be off this weekend and new speakers in.

I also had a Mark 2 escort, cracking car same crappy hifis lol.

My list is growing, looking at a hydrodipping for mirror covers among many other changes.

I found( even before I added the Bassworks) that the rear speakers only produce a low sound. They must be filtered to just produced bass so may be working they are just really rubbish to hear.

The rear speakers should be a coaxial (woofer and tweeter built into one). You will notice if there is no tweeter as there will be a distinct lack of high end notes. If you are taking the subwoofer out, you will be asking more of the interior woofer to produce bass which will distort them when you increase bass levels and make them sound worse.

I recommend you replace the front speakers with a set of components such as the infinity reference speakers and amp them up to get a nice sounds from the speakers, although they do great without being powered by an amp too. If you are bothered about the rear speakers, you can buy a set of decent coax speakers for around £40 which will be much better in the high end notes compared to factory speakers.

Another note is, most factory speakers are made out of paper cones, these are susceptible to the elements and deteriorate over time compared to most aftermarket speakers which use some form of Kevlar or plastic.

I think the problem is the Honda stereo, when I changed to a Pioneer avic double din I couldn't believe the improvement in sound quality with the stock speakers.

What you experienced there is an increase in power. Most aftermarket headunits put out around low 20s watts rms (continuous power). The standard headunit only puts out low 10s rms power iirc, effectively starving the speakers of power.

when it comes to ICE, i am lost, gimmie an engine to work on any day.

Car currently has some upgrades ICE, 3000k Amp, and box in the back, front speaker ( tweeters ) are Vibe, aint sure if they are any good, i will take a pic of install as i have no idea.

Sounds like it has been installed by halfords. Vibe speakers are just garbage in my opinion. A good upgrade would be something like the infinity reference series. The 3000k amp is false info and will only actually be around 500watts or something. If you can work on an engine then any ice upgrades are very simple to install.

I'd recommend sound deadening the front doors and rear panels to improve sound quality for now (very cheap, you can get enough material for the front doors and rear panels for under £30). If you arent happy, look at replacing the front speakers and using an amplifier to power them.

Sound deadening improves the response of the speakers, if you think about any hifi speakers at home, they have cabinets with sound deadening inside. Car doors will never be as good as proper cabinets as they leak a lot of air and vibrate loads!

been there done that lol..easily changeable with pioneer upgrades I take it they have used a line out converter and tapped into the rear speakers if you have standard headhunt...

That sub is getting quite a bit of power from that amp, depending if its 4,2,1 ohm. Looks like the previous owner upgraded on a budget without doing much research (never heard of the amp make). A claim of 1000rms at 1ohm makes me a bit worried for such a low price point.

With their being vibe speakers they will have used an adaptor to make the speakers to fit. As long as you get any 6.5"/17cm speakers you'll be good.

General rule for good audio equipment, JL Audio, Alpine, rockford fosgate, polk audio, infinity. JL audio being very expensive but arguably the best brand for quality (highly rated on various carav forums).

If you want solid recommendations from various people i highly recommend you check out https://talkaudio.co.uk/car-audio-f7/ OR https://www.reddit.com/r/CarAV/ . You will get better responses from the people on that forum regarding speaker recommendations. The CarAV sub reddit has a form you can fill to help people tailor the best speakers to your needs.

I have no idea i aint really checked yet but would imagine so, i have been looking at replacement speakers front and back.

Thing has quite bit of bass tbh, clarity aint the best, not really bad though, best when using an ipod or cd, radio is terrible lol.

Nowhere near my Bang and Olufsen it was amazing but i aint expecting to match it.

Just a simple upgrade, maybe speakers and tweeters. Are the front speakers in the doors the same size as the rears in the 3 door ??

Am looking to order some new asap, did see the Poineers and Alpines.

think they're the same size but would imagine yours to have been changed especially the fronts ,think the size is 6.5" ... I said the pioneers just because they're affordable and don't sound that bad tbh..

Front speakers are 6.5" component
Rear speakers are 6.5" coaxial (tweeter built into the woofer)
https://www.civinfo.com/wiki/index.php?title=In_Car_Entertainment#Can_I_upgrade_the_speakers.3F

Sound deaden the door panels first as they help improve the mid bass significantly (In other words, sounds like male vocals). Also try not to increase the bass on the headunit as this can result in clipping (not music coming from speakers), let the subwoofer handle sub bass (sub 80hz or so).

You can always turn the bass down on the subwoofer, there will be various volume knobs on the amp, if that still doesn't do it for you then you can decrease the gain on the amp. **WARNING** DO NOT INCREASE THE GAIN KNOB OR YOU WILL RISK BLOWING THE SUB.
