This morning, I did a 14 mile drive, mainly on B roads in normal mode and achieved an average of 72 mpg. I was well pleased! I find that I get much better economy if I keep the speed below 40 to 45 mph in normal mode and a light right foot. If I drive around 50 to 55 mph in sport mode with a heavier right foot, then the mpg drops considerably, to around 35 to 40 mpg.

Same on my Jazz

On the motorway the figures are :

70mph = 50mpg
60mph = 60mpg
50mph = 70mpg

I did a local trip last summer, 16 miles round trip, never got above 40mph and achieved 119mpg.

In the colder weather the engine will always fire up and will run far longer to power the heater.

I've had my Jazz through all seasons now so I know what to expect.

Almost all the journo reviews I've seen focus on performance as they plant their right foot firmly into the carpet.

These latest hybrids are aimed at reducing emissions and need to be driven with courtesy.

Bingo!

Hybrids are not about chasing MPG - thats the by-product. The primary goal is reducing tail-pipe emissions - a point lost on probably a lot of would-be buyers of all Hybrids of any brand.
