Hi,

I've been the proud owner of a 56 1.8 se for the grand total of seven days and I'm not sure if its always done this as my heads been in the clouds since I got it.

When I turn the ignition on I get the usual dash symbols coming on and then off just like any car. But I've now become aware that when I press the start button as the car starts there is a 'bong' and the VSA and Triangled ! lights come on. The 'information panel' also goes orange with a exclamation mark. After about a second they go off again never to return until the car is started again.

Is this normal start up sequence?

Many thanks

Thanks for the replies.

I reckon when I got the car it didn't do this - it may have started when I went into the display setup to make sure the rev indicator was enabled (not knowing it doesn't light until 6K) . It was but I used the reset defaults and I think its been since then.

Any I just went out and started the car - and it happened - I went into the setup and turned warnings off - it still did it. I turned them back on - it still did it. I reset defaults - it still did it. I reset defaults again and it stopped. Three more starts and it's not done it again.

I guess its a watching brief just now - glad I took out the extended warranty.

I really doubt this could in anyway be related to a change in display settings.

As a first thing, check that your battery is ok, a poorly battery can make all kinds of strange things happen.

It is because of the cold weather mine does it when im driving its if it gets below a certain temperature
I've never had mine do that, even below -20C.

But, if this is the case, it's yet another reason to check the battery as battery performance suffers at colder temperatures.

Ditto - even at -29C last year

Poor battery or slack fan belt or sick alternator

Mine does it occasionally. It's never stayed on or Interfered with driving so im not worried yet! I also have the power steering light very occasionally. I've heard of some people having the ECU replaced. If I were you I'd mention it to the garage to got it from. At least then if it gets any worse you're covered

Deff going to tell dealer about it. The car came with two months warranty and because of the money my previous car cost me i also took out two years extended warranty.

Hope its an easy fix - i need a bit of reliabilty

Got in touch with dealer today.

They're taking the car in on the 16th as this is the earliest they'll have a courtesy car.

I told the service guy that the general consensus is the battery. He took a note of this but said because it involves the vsa and abs lights they may send it to a Honda dealer to diagnose.

I've also noticed I seem to have the wipers with a mind of their own so they will look at that also.

Thanks again for all replies.

Henestly its is the battery being a bit low, normal in winter with short journeys, fans, heated screens and mirrors etc all draining and not being recharged enough.
Be sure they don't charge you for the privelidge;)

Can't agree at all - have the standard 1.8 battery, and 'nary a problem' - even after leaving it in an exposed Hospital car park for some two weeks. in some minus 10C - after I eventually melted the ice from the driver's door (buckets of lukewarm water) and got inside, it started first time ! ...
