Hi, I was in the dealers the other day for a small prob with my civic and was talking to a gent in there waiting for his jazz to be done, he was not a happy bunny!!

He explained that the car was 12 months old and had only done 5000 miles when it had its first service a month previous (nov), the first of the 3 years free serviceing.

A month later after useing it a lot more than normal, the light came on saying it needed a service.

He contacted the dealer a bit puzzled, and they told him THAT THEY HAD NOT CHANGED THE OIL OR THE FILTER DURING THE SERVICE DUE TO THE LOW MILAGE AND SO HAD NOT RESET THE SYSTEM, AND TO BRING IT BACK AND THEY WOULD DO IT!!

My civic is due for its first 'free' sevice in feb and its only done 5000 miles, have I got to demand they change the oil and filter? I would have thought this to to be the 'minimum' requirment in a service!

Has anyone else heard of this?

I had similar experience under the 'Honda Happiness' scheme, I believe the eng oil + filter were changed each year, but after looking at air and pollen filters etc I seriously do not believe they were touched until I gave it a full going over after the warranty expired. I have not taken it in for the final 2 yrs worth of 'HH', as I believe I can service it fully, properly, and to a higher standard, read off the fault codes (of which there are none),and also do things like the brakes when they are due, and not half worn (when a dealer tells me they are nearly worn out Sir). Also it avoids getting the paintwork damaged when they allow a numbnut to wash it for you. ;) Any cost cutting Honda dealers reading this may well frown, but they have only themselves to blame TBH.
