Hi,

My 06 1.8 EX has been stood for almost a week, I've occasionally started and tried to move it but its had no traction and I've just given up, its been stalled a few times whilst doing this too. Having noticed the road clearing a bit from the recent snow I've just attempted to start it up and I'm getting flickering lights and a check system warning, the car wont start. I assume the battery is flat (i did leave auto wipers on and maybe the internal light)...

anyway

I was about to attempt a jump start and I've just read in the manual
"If the battery sits in extreme cold, the electrolyte inside can freeze. Attempting to jump start with a frozen battery can cause it to rupture"
What should I do?

thanks

I have a Type R on a 58 plate, and was told by my dealer to push the car making sure you have it in second gear and the clutch pedal pressd down, once the car builds up a bit of momentum release the clutch slowly and it should start up, i did try this on my type r and it worked not sure if it would be any different on your model!?;)

It would be the same, as long as he does not have an i-shift.

However, I wonder what "extreme cold" is.
I am guessing -40 rather than -10, but that is a pure guess.

I have never heard of a battery exploding in the winter time when giving it a jump.

used my girlfriends crv to jump start it had just started to blizzard! managed to get it going & reversed the car down the road and back up again before having to stop outside my house again in fear of getting stuck again (road is totally covered already)

The battery will probably be flat again tomorrow but I'm not risking trying to drive it again in this weather! especially with my excellent choice of summer tyres (michelin PS2!)

cheers

My battery goes flat if car left for 3 or 4 days. After the AA started it last time I left it running in my drive for 60 minutes. (I could not drive it as road a sheet of ice.)

It then started the following day OK. I now have to start it up everyday which is quite a pain.
