Kenwood Head Unit and Impulse kit: SWRC question

Hi all

After a previous thread where I was trying to decide which head unit to buy, I changed my mind completely and went for a Kenwood DPX-504U. Main reasons being it was cheaper, I thought it would blend in well with the dash, and would be less of a theft magnet than a touch screen unit.

Anyway all my parts arrived today and I've been going over them preparing for my install tomorrow. In terrms of connections it looks straight forward except for the steering wheel remote control....

My SWRC patch lead is the Kenwood one as can be found on the Impulse website. It has a black wide connector which connects to the black SWRC adapter. It has a single wire whch looks like it connects to the single SWRC wire on my head unit. But the is also a "din" style connector, does anyone know what this connects to?

I thought perhaps it connected to an existing plug in the dash, but none of the other patch leads for other stereo makes have this connector so that can't be the case. I can't find anywhere on the new head unit that it could possible connect to either.

Any thoughts, ideas and help would be much apppciated!

Cheers

Steve

Some more googleing and I think I may have answered my own question. It looks like there are 2 types of connection for SWRC on Kenwood headunits. The lead is probably universal so you use either the din connector or the single wire, but not both.

If anyone is able to confirm I'd be grateful. Looks like I'm going to need a trip to a DIY place in the morning though so I can buy a crimp tool to connect the swrc wire and also the antenna wire. Seems odd they aren't just plug and play too...?!
I would guess your correct, it sounds logical. TBH I just bought everything from impulse and went plug and play :) If you call them they are pretty helpful guys :)

Use either one, depending one which is required for your Kenwood unit. The Impulse lead comes with 2 types as you have said. One is for the older type and the other is for more recent types of headunits.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'm good to go, will post back later this weekend with the results!
