Has anyone else noticed that the left side wiper wont clear the water off the windscreen without leaving some water smeared ?

Sounds like your windscreen has some sort of contimanation, glass polish, wiped away with IPA should sort it.

Check the wiper, maybe time for some new wiper blades.

could always try the old white vinegar on a cloth trick as there is always a build up of grease and grime on wiper blades the vinegar will cut through that and at least restore it unless the wiper blade is truly shot.

I never changed blades on my 8G, on my 9G changed after about 18 months, i'm sure the "consumable" components like this are cheaper on the 9G.

My 8g wipers are original too, 8 years old next month!
