Heyo,

To start off Im sorry if this isnt where this sort of post goes but Im really struggling here - Ive found a Civic that I like the look of and would love to do some work on it. Its recently passed its MOT with 3 advisories, Ive been having a look online on what they are and how hard they would to fix but I cant really tell as everyone does it differently and/or makes it look easy. Im a beginner in this sort of stuff but would love to dive in head first but just not tooo out of my depth - Getting to the point the three advisories are;

  • Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing all (5.2.3 (d) (ii)) - Assuming pretty easy to change a tyre.
  • Front Vehicle structure is repaired but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced (6.1.1 (d) (i)) - Guessing the previous owner has done some work on it mending this part?
  • Rear Axle swivel pins and bushes swivel pin and/or bush slightly worn (5.1.2 (b) (i)) - This to me is the scary one, Ive been watching videos online and it doesnt seem all that bad but I dont know if I would be too out of my depth here trying to fix this up?
Im going to possible phone up the guy and ask him to get some pictures of the repaired structure if possible? - Any help is appriciated wherever its telling me to stay clear or the help Id need to fix it up

Yeah ofcourse Im not expecting it to be in perfect condition and Im willing to work on it like I said; but is it going to be a big job for someone new to mechanics?
If you aren't broke so can't afford more, then you might be if you buy this.

How so, cost in repairs?
This the civic eg shape? Might be 1 yr away from rusty arch’s/sills. If you willing to strip the thing down to inspect every inch then could be a ticking time bomb for stuff to go wrong, if it’s a daily that’s a pretty big risk. If a drive way doer upper over a few month/years and have a daily then it’s worth the risk for a good price

Ek range, just gotta watch out on the sills and arch’s for rust. Engines easy to get at and service yourself, but rust will be your nemesis and keeping it at bay. Tap them panels on the edge for filler repairs and check prolonged oil leaks. Still expect to shell out a few pounds to keep it running due to age, Jesus mines 14 years old and I shelled out nearly the price I paid for it.
If you can get it for around £1150 be pretty decent
Found this from many years ago, pretty decent read and aid for what to look out when you go and have a scan over

Thank you for responding. When I go to view it Ill be sure to do these checks - I am willing to put in the time and effort to fixing it up where needed as itll be my first project Id be working on so I willing to take a risk to a certain extent as I its a car I do like and would love to work on I just dont want to get fucked over with the "Front Vehicle structure is repaired but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced" but when viewing itll make it clearer for me - Just wanted a bit of clarifcation that its worth working on
I’m surmising the front has possibly taken an impact and the crash bar maybe taken a hit, that’s replaceable. The car got a cat recorded against it?

Is hasnt no, not that I can find
So I’m guessing it’s had a prang but not been recorded or is it down to rust issues, what’s the reason for structural issue. That needs to be questioned first and foremost.

Okie dokie, thank you very much for the help and information! I will ask the seller if they know what the reseaon is why the need of repair and if its rust Im gonna assume its a no goer?
Just depends what the issue could be?Wonder if the sub frame is showing signs of rust or front crash bar rust just wants replacing in near future as that’s what the advisory are for you to look at the future. I would ask the question concerning that one first of the mot advisory.
Make sure the AC works cold+hot. It's a pretty simple car. Might need to import alot of parts. Might get randomly stolen.
AC on that is the least of his worries 🤣
