Hi All

First time poster here.

Bought an 04 1.7 diesel civic last year. Great car with no probs at all and recent clean mot. Then driving up M5 sudden loss of power. Could only do low revs in each gear and top speed 60 in 5 th. had to limp back home.

I got rid of a Peugeot 307 diesel having had endless probs with diesel particulate filter and was looking forward to some Honda reliability. However this feels different to the loss of power I had in the Peugeot (which only lost power up hill and went into limp home mode). The civic suddenly lost power and consistently has low revs.

We were en route to Alton Towers so a 2 hour delay was not fun for the children.

Any ideas would be gratefully received. Also I don't know whether to take it to my local very reliable garage or go straight to the Honda dealer.

Many thanks in advance.

I had similar on an old Astra and no one could diagnose it.

Turned out to be a collapsed catalytic converter!

Take it for a little drive and see if the revs maximum gets lower and lower

Common problem with that car is turbo failure mate.

Just for the record though the engine is not a Honda engine it's a Hyundai engine from what I can remember Vauxhall used the same engine in some of their cars as well

Many thanks for your help. Sounds expensive either way. I was just wondering if a local garage would be able to run diagnostics?

Honda have a specific trouble shooting guide (depending on the fault code recorded) relating to any turbo or EGR fault for these cars. Has more to do with vacuum than anything else from memory. Unless your local garage is Honda specialist I doubt they'll be able to sort it.
