Any one else had problems with the rear seats falling down while braking and crushing everything you put on the floor? I have followed the instructions on how to put them up but they do not need much force to fall down again. Any ideas?

You've a 3 door, in which case, they aren't designed to be held up. the only option you have is to strap them up with your seatbelts or a bungee cord.

Thanks The Vision
A firm push was what it needed. Thought I've done that before but perhaps not firm enought.
Really amazing that so many Civic owners like to help other owners in the middle of the night.

Thanks again everybody.

Btw I'ts a 5-door and I will fix a better picture as avatar.

The right side (the circa 60% part) usually needs a firmer hand - I just (as others said) hold the seat back firmly in place, then 'smack' the locking bar sharply well down ...

I still amaze people with my magic seats. You wouldn't think something so simple could be impressive.

I find it great for winging the dog in the back, though he's getting old now so taking him out less on long walks :(

i think there is a pin that you need to release under the seat base on the 3 door and then use the seatbelt to hold it upright....

there is a few threads about it iirc

I cant lift mine up either. The support bar fits into two plastic clips but there is also a metal lever over the top of the support bar. It moves slightly but I cannot find a lever to release it clear of the support bar.

In the Civic brochure it suggests that only 5 door models have magic seats.

Only the 5 doors have true magic seats.

In the 3 door I have seen a pic where the seats are lifted and then held up by fastening the seat belts.

I have a three door type S, the seats do go up by moving the retaining clip but they do not lock into place. You have to try and secure them another way, seatbelt( didnt seem safe) rope etc.I dont understand why Honda did not keep locking mechanism as in 5 door.

You all stay safe out there:police:
