Called in at Ruislip Honda today to give them my list of generic faults/bugs etc. to sort out and, to my amazement, all the service staff denied all knowledge of these issues.
The list included items such as fuel cap release problem, squealing drivers window, loose handbrake, poor paintwork (chipping etc.), rattle from rear, windscreen noise, etc.
It would appear that this information hasn't been filtered down from Honda CS to the main dealers but, how can that be the case when they have access to the "Honda knowledgebase". Alternatively, they have decided that commercially it's not a good idea to discuss these issues.
I asked them whether they were aware of this forum and, of course, they weren't.
I left them with the url details and asked them to take a look. Fat chance !

The service guys in my dealer look at this often. I don't think they ever signed up.

I really can't believe they don't know about the knocking shocks or filler cap. They must know!

Aa far as I know, the easily chipping paint is just a result of this new, environmentaly freindley paint they have to use.

Hope you get it all sorted soon.

If I were you, ciderman, I'd change my dealer; your's obviously has more customers than he needs to be bothered about.
I agree. There's no need to bother this, obviously very busy, dealer with your custom.

The fuel filler cap problem bulletin, or whatever it is called, was circulated to dealers a while back.

I have to agree with Bungle in that their shouldn't be anybody in an Aftersales role at a Dealer that does not know about the fuel filler fiasco or the shock absorbers .
I'm not sure about the others, especially the paint, after all what can you expect the dealer to do about it??:(

You were'nt talking to a member of there sales staff were you, they can be over positive at times.:D

Hope you get the issues that can be solved sorted soon anyway.:)

I have changed from my dealership to Ruislip purely because they are much nicer people, they do seem unaware of some of the problems (even the shock absorber one was a new one to them) . I am quite friendly with one of the sales team there and she has told me that they have had very few civics back there with problems.

However, in respect of the poor paintwork, I was there on Wednesday with a manager from Honda Uk and a couple of guys came down from Swindon to check the paintwork on mime and and another Civic!!

My Civinfo sticker was also staring them in the face :D

I have to say that so far they have been very helpful, they call then they say they will and seem very eager to please even though I didn't buy my car from them.

Thanks all for the feedback.

Obviously I must have been speaking to some uninformed service staff. Car is booked in next week, so I will give them a try and see what sort of resolution I get to the problems.

I don't know, but I wonder if part of the problem with these failing dealers is that as Honda specialists they aren't used to such a massive number of returns and complaints and simply haven't got the systems to deal with them. They'd take it in their stride if they were Ford, I'm sure! This doesn't excuse them, obviously. But it might help expain it.

These failing dealers: mine seems to be doing very well. No complaints from here.
Massive number of returns and complaints: not from me, apart from my first service coming up and my long list of complaints (just one - adjust the alignment of the drivers door). Normally I have to write a long list of rectification items for a first service.

Also, a quick chat with the right person gets a result - often it's the chap that's fixing the car, not the lady behind the telephone.

Honcho, do you have any first hand experience of a Civic with a fault, or is it just from reading stuff posted here?

I seem to be very lucky for some reason... very unlike me! The only thing that my Civic has gone back for is the HFT mod.

Why don't we compile a list of the common problems on here and forward it onto Honda CS?

We could do it on say a Excel spreadsheet with the problem at the top and the number of issues from people on each problem.

Just an idea.

The few problems I have had have all been fixed by the dealer without question. I had a quiet word with the service manager a while ago. I asked if they were seeing many civics back with problems, and he said hardly any. Mostly cars with knocking shocks. He said they get no more Civics back than any other car in their range.
He also added that he has spoken to other service manages from other Honda dealers in the network, and said that the Civic is not experiencing any more problems than other Hondas.

I have to say, Honcho, you have got a seriously distorted view of the Civic, maybe you should try one out yourself and form opinions on the real thing, not from bits you read.

Agreed !

Also Honcho, if you have not got a Civic could you let us know what car you currently drive -

We then may be able to buy one of them when we get fed up with the Civic.

As always, I'm very happy that you've had such a good experience with your Civic. That's the reason we buy Hondas after all. As far as a distorted view is concerned, that would certainly be so if all those reporting faults on this site were simply imagining them. I can't think why they would. Can you? I drive an Accord. Like the car before that. And the one before that. And the one before that. My next car will be a Civic. Fortunately, because of this superb site, I know it's sensible to wait a year or so...for all those imaginary problems to be ironed out.

Hope you don't get fed up with yours, before you get it.

Honcho, there are real problems listed on this site, I never disputed that. I have had a couple myself. But any forum like this will have a high number of people with problems. Happy owners won't come looking, generally.

As fas as Accords go, they are good cars. My father has one (53 reg).
His has had a faulty radio and has been in for a recall. I have just found 2 uk Accord forums, both have a list of faults found on the cars and some disgruntled owners. Would this have put you off your Accord if you found that site before?

This is why your view is distorted, as it is not a true sample of Civic owners.

Find any forum for any vehicle, and you will find all sorts of problems listed and people saying the car is not as good as they hoped.

Well, I'm pleased to see that my idea has received such a lot of interest! [smilie=cheeky-grin:

Aubrey - Honda watch the site closely as it is, and are very aware of the regular issues (as well as some of the individual cases, where they have become involved and provided help). They do care, and users reporting faults on the site is useful to both parties!

Sadly though, we have contracts with dealers, not Honda, and some dealers are clearly better than others.
