I read a few weeks ago about this problem alot of 2.2 owners had with the smell of fumes in cabin on start up. Well this has happened to me and I've got it booked up in but they insist on a £46 charge for diagnostics did anyone else have to pay this?

Covered under warantee if you car is not more than 7 years old / 125,000 Miles on the clock. I understand this is a common fault with these engines that Honda know about. Read this in another thread I will try dig out. If there is a fault you should not need to pay a penny. Apparently it is very common on the Accord 2.2's, just not as many people have noticed on the Civic.

As long as it's below 7 years or 125,000 miles, there shouldn't be an issue, according to my local Honda dealer. One thing I can say, it's a pig of a job on the Civic. It took my dealer 8.5 hours to do!

I've been this morning and paid the £46 diagnostics even though I told them I knew it was the manifold and if they got it on ramp they would find out for themselves but "apparently" they had to do a diagnostics.
Manifold was cracked when they tested it so it's booked in Thursday morning for a new 1 fitted :)

NoPe that's the labour charge for testing it :( Nevermind it's small price to pay considering how much it would of been to buy a manifold and get it fitted. I can't wait for good mpg as I'm averaging 32 at moment, I mayswel of got the Type R

I can't believe you paid it mate - their 'diagnostics' is a bloody sniff under the bonnet (literally). We're getting this on the Accord forum too, some dealers are really taking the mick and squeezing every penny out of customers. Others are fair and accept that it takes 5 minutes to diagnose.

I might have a argument with them when I go back on Thursday actually if I can be bothered lol I know it's a joke as I remember other people saying their Honda dealers just got it up on ramp, clarified it was ****ed then booked it in with no charge hmmmmm

Yes they don't get paid by Honda for 'diagnosing' but as we all know it's a quick sniff, and if they can be bothered, they look for soot marks around the manifold shield. Why does that cost £46 in the current economic climate, I fail to understand.

I know it's shocking mate I was foaming because I know it doesn't take a genius to nearly pass out when you start the engine with the smell of fumes lol I'll speak to manager on Thursday and might phone another branch tomorrow to see how they feel about it :)

It's shocking that they charged you £46 for a 10 min inspection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have told them to stick it. When I took my Stratstone Honda, they didn't ask for any money and they literally had the car on the ramp for 10mins. The mechanic said he could smell the fumes when he started the car up. There is sod all to 'test' on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excuse the punn but things like this get me fuming, bloody rip off garages :mad:

Well I Took it this morning and mentioned it to the bloke and he said he would have a word with manager. I've just been to pick it up and he says apparently they NEED to do diagnostic test so they can send information to Honda for warranty so no money back :( On the other hand its lovely getting in a car that doesn't smell like fumes, it seems to drive a whole lot better and now I'll be able to achieve Good MPG :D
