max diesel bhp

After reading bits on diesel tuning I was wondering what would be the most bhp you could get out of a 2.2 civic, I am was just curious so would not have to be proven facts,
I know the fmic adds some ponies and a good exhaust system will help, this along with a custom remap would be great but what would this produce and what else could you do to max it out without it being dangerously stupid for the motor
Would a clipped turbo help (what is this) or a bigger turbo.

Also on another note if a vented/scooped bonnet was fitted and the cold air that was forced under the bonnet and into the engine went to a cold air feed for the air filter would this produce to much air

Guesstimating, i reckon the donk could handle 250-270 (driven respectfully)
If you're treating it like a 1.2 pug (boy racer) i wouldn't expect it to last too long.

For this you'd need effective breathing mods both ends (inc' R'B turbo), which would require R&D, not just "ah that'll do"


I wouldn't want to push much further without internals etc
After seeing our 400bhp scoob almost cut the block in-half when it snapped a rod at Oulten; it's never a pretty sight seeing your pride & hard work and in smoke (with a loverly orange glow under the bonnet)

It depends how much $$ you throw at it though, you could go mad and spend thousands an push a couple hundred more out of it, but for the same amount you could buy something even better..

No one has yet blown and engine, however AFAIK no one is really on the edge of where the engine is capable

Apparently, yeah, but he's boosting lower than me and i'm only running 195
I think he's coming over to TDINorth at some point, i might head over there (15 mins away) if he does as i'm interested to see what he's done, alot of graft gone into his :)
230 or he likes to think he is.... he has a stage 2 generic celtic map with 21psi im running 24psi so go figure? no one knows how far this engine will go. micks close to going a step further than anyone

Well, i certainly would make the trip to see it on a RR, if he makes that i'll be ringing for a refund on my map..
Anything above 250 I'd be wanting custom internals defo.

With custompistons, cams, ported, polished, bigger turbo, etc etc (the limit of the sky is directly proportional to your wallet tbh).

You'd prob see easily over 300hp with the above if not more.

Depends how much you want to spend, Honda engines blocks are known to be very hard wearing though, but your internals may not stand up to it.

If someone on here has £50K to spend on a 2.2 derv engine i would love to see what could be done. I remember a bloke on the vag forums with a 1.4 TSI running over 500hp. Everything custom.

But then why - just buy a frickin better car in the first place!

Hmmm - I think that this paper at the end of Dyno test should NOT be faulty...
He have 230PS and 502NM as I see....

What kind of MPG do you end up with when pushing the 2.2TD to 250hp I wonder?

That has to be close to 30 pounds of boost right?

What i dont get is how he's running fairly low boost compared to what he could run, and makes apparently one of the highest figures we've seen!

Unless he's got something hidden im ever a sceptic

Like i said, i'm not calling anyone a liar, but until i see first hand im not convinced
fuelling and turbo are virtually at max on mine. there was more power to be had but the ecu kept locking out when anymore fuel was requested. the civic block is alloy afaik so im unsure if it will take the power that the vag one will. i keep getting tempted to go vag theres 300+ bhp to be had and all the add ons required are off the shelf stuff

250 would be a good result imo!

What was locking out lee ? the ECU itself or just refusing to fuel more?



I must say, the GTI sounds brilliant standard, a few add-ons and you could have something beautiful sounding
It's the styling (interior mostly) that would put me off

the ecu was deciding it was overfuelling and locking out. this could be mapped around given time i believe.....

Me too... But not for several years :p maybe a MK6 GTD in the future...

But I love my Civic so will keep watching this thread. :popcorn:
