As promised here is a video of my AV set up.

Sorry about the poor video quality, I filmed it with my girlfriends Android phone ;) ... it does not do the picture quality that appears on the Navi screen justice!

The video switch in the armrest is one of these which i got off ebay for about £10...

Cheers Andy... But I see you have installed the foldy mirrors, so doing this will be no problem for you.

Yeah, i'm not bad with wiring/electrics/soldering etc... it's actually the part where I have to pull the car in bits that frightens the hell out of me. The folding mirror module was a breeze as the door car is removed with only 2 screws!... I then pondered and researched for a month or two over trying your AV mod, but bottled it when I saw the implications of removing the dashboard :(.

This is the little media player....

Xenta HDMI Upscaling Mini Media Player Divx Upscaling.. | Ebuyer.com

photo 1.jpg photo 2.jpg photo 3.jpg

Now reduced.... I paid £20... yes £20! It plays all sorts of media, I Have an 8gb Micro SD in mine... Just need to fill it up now with videos :)

It's held in the cubby hole with a velcro pad and a hole drilled in the back of the cubby allows the power lead and AV cable to pass out the back under the centre console and into the armrest storage box (Through the hole covered by a rubber grommet)

BTW it comes with a 5v 2A mains adaptor. 5v 2A is the same as USB power so I made up my own USB power cable so that it can work in the car.

The AV cable it comes with is fairly standard and the same as the Nokia TV out lead, one of which I had knocking about... so I installed that into the car and keep the original in the boot with its mains adaptor, so I can take it out the car and use at home, hotel etc..

Awesome work mate! You got some skills.

How much do you reckon it cost you in total? & how long to do it all?

Prob 5-6 hrs spread over a few weekends and cost... £20ish for cables and switch (Had parts laying around anyway), Reversing Cam £13, Xenta Media Player £20 and video selector £20.

So less than £70

That is a bargain mod. Like I said a few times now im definatly interested in this but may have to enlist the help of some electrian mates to help out with it as im out of practice with my soldering and running wires....my hands are too big for fiddly jobs behind the dash. LOL

Im not bothered about having the reversing camera but wouldnt mind just the video source, as I've got an ipod touch with loads of films on and I have actually remembered today that I have a slim PS2 sat in a drawer that I used to use in my first astra when I had a TV in it for playing DVDs and Games.

Its just a case now of working out what wires and adaptors I would need to get it all running and if things need splicing etc.

Brilliant execution of it, straight forward idea with a LOT of possibility... I've been meaning to fit a reverse camera anyway :p...

Actually, out of interest, which reverse camera do you have? Is it the one that says it's for the honda civic on eBay?

Awesome, thanks, did you just glue it on and drill through the wires? Is it powered up by reverse lights?

Sorry for the questions :p very helpful though, I've pretty much decided I'm doing similar ;) May need one of your cam cables at this rate :p.

I used the screws that it came with, self tapping and only about 10mm long. The cam is very secure ... But a strong glue would be fine too.

If you do the basic reversing cam, then yes power is from reversing lights. If you want to view the cam when going forward, the it's more complicated ... But I will soon making and selling a special control box :) :)

I need help with this circuit!!

hello bog, first of all thank the hard work and effort you made to bring out this how to ...
I do not understand this part of the circuit, the part surrounded by red on the attached picture, where is the light switch back up (on the gearbox) that froma is, where is the green/white wire?
What cable carries the signal back up?
I would really appreciate if you help me to clarify since I am not an expert on anything electronic
certainly, I have installed back up camera, and my idea is to put a switch to change from av sources
Sorry my bad english

The green/white is not a wire, just a box to show my circuit separate from the original wiring diagram.

The brown wire goes from the reverse switch to the reversing lights and also to the back of the Navigation Unit, this is where you cut the wire.
