As per my intro post, I got my Type S a month ago and I've had a huge amount of fun already with this car! She's a 2007 that appears to have had a fair bit of customisation applied, but I feel the previous owner(s) left the job unfinished and I wanted to complete the look.

For reference, here's what my car probably would've looked like originally, as the 2007 is pre-facelift and is the original 8th gen Type S:

And here's what my car looked like when I got her:

The previous owner(s) appear to have fitted red body trim, the 'Inferno' sports grille with red badge, and a K&N sports air filter (not pictured, obviously) that makes the engine sound amazing.

However, I wanted to make some changes to complete the look. I was particular unhappy with the rear, especially the lack of spoiler. I wanted to add a Type R spoiler, but decided to be a little different and went for a black and red look. I'm proud that my car is a Type S and love that she has the panoramic roof and more eco-friendly engine than the Type R, so I wanted to celebrate that. I felt that a black spoiler would make her look more sporty, whilst being different to the Type R and a little more subdued. I bagged a black CTR spoiler for £50 off eBay and bonded it on with Sikaflex 255 FC (adhesive designed for windscreens and bodywork), and it's never coming off again!

To further the black and red look, I added the 'holey' Sumo vinyl cover by Coolice for the fake brake lights and changed the badges to black equivalents. I also added a matching front grille badge (stuck on with 3M VHB) and a generic GT badge on the left side of the boot (it bugs me a little how that side is empty by default).

My focus is now on repairing the rear suspension, which is rather corroded, unsurprisingly. Tyres are also being changed on Monday because the current ones are crap and don't match, and the driver-side rear has a slow leak. Once the maintenance stuff is done, I plan to change the wheels to 5-spoke black wheels (or paint the current ones), change the mirror indicators to those cool LED animated ones, and maybe replace the bumpers to get rid of the wear they've suffered over the years.

Thanks, definitely want to fit good parts so they last! Realistically, I'll be using this car until I can afford an EV (or at least a hybrid) someday, and that'll be a while. So I want to fix my Civic up properly and get a good few years enjoyment.

while you are on the personalisation road, try LED bulbs:

this says FN2 but the interior lights are all the same Civic 05-15 FN2 Type R Full LED Interior Light Kit - Bright White Xenon 7107717796349 | eBay

the only ones I haven't changed are the indicators and the headlights, got Osram nightbreakers in the hi beam.

Oh yeah, for sure. The black Type S badges aren’t Honda. The OEM Type S badges are silver with a red outline round the S.

However, I wanted black and red badges for the look I’m going for (and they look like Type R badges), and the OEM badges are mega expensive for what they are. These eBay ones are metal, too, whereas the OEM ones are plastic!

looking very nice, you could carry the black gloss to the sides by popping on the black mirror caps, 2 tone red/black accents combined with the black led side repeaters wilmo posted would look superb, leaving it as is on the front, as it looks spot on imo

the red badge and grill red inlay makes it look much cleaner for sure.

This looks SO good! I felt you'd been quiet of late, but clearly you've been BUSY. I really like both the changes you've made and the plans you have going forward. Your car is already lovely, but I just know going forward it's going to turn into a real gem under your ownership!

Thanks so much! Yeah, I didn't want to post anything until I'd finished adding all this stuff. Really happy with the look so far and can't wait to see the result in a year or two.

So... here's an update I didn't expect to make. I'm sad to say that I have parted ways with my Civic. I only had it three months and I my plans grew more and ambitious (and costly), going as far as planning a respray, GP bumper pack, new wheels and (someday) even a turbo! Maybe my daydreaming went a bit far...

However, my dreams crashed back to reality after Honda inspected it and found far more issues than I had realised. The final nail in the coffin was that the clutch and i-Shift actuator were both knackered so badly that it wouldn't even accept a relearn and software update, so they told me. Along with the numerous corrosion and suspension issues, the list of needed repairs crossed my mental limit and I decided to call it quits.

I love Japanese cars and I've wanted a true JDM car for a while now, and I was also craving more power and torque. I won't discuss my new car too much because it's not a Civic (sorry!) and this isn't the place, but I now own a 2006 Nissan Fairlady Z, a fresh import that's in excellent condition. Here are a couple of photos:

Despite leaving the Civic community after only three months, I learnt a huge amount and had a lot of fun tearing apart my car and fixing all sorts of issues. It was a great experience and I don't regret it at all. However, it definitely served as a gateway drug and I've ended up with something I never would have dreamt of six months ago!

If I'm allowed, I will still drop in to say hello sometimes, plus Tridi is still a proud owner of an FN2. I hope to see you guys again at future Japanese car events! It's a lovely bunch of people here and it's a shame I was just starting to get to know some of you.

I went from a 2.2 type S idti to a 350z. Great fun to be had in those cars. Kept it for two years and made money when I sold it. (First time ever!).
Had to sell as needed something I could put the dogs in.

You'll enjoy the power and the noise for sure.

I've now come back to an FN2 after a year in a boring Scirocco.

Saw your post on the z forum also( I still linger incase I go back to a Z). Car looks great, congratulations. The guys over there are also a fountain of knowledge so you'll be well looked after

That's a shame, you were really getting into that Civic! However, I know what it's like to reach a moment where the dynamics of the ownership tilt and you have to reconsider your position.

Your Z looks nice! I nearly had one myself, I was choosing between a 350z in burnt orange, and an RX8 in Velocity Red. The V6 sounded nicer than the rotary, but I felt the cabin of the Z was that bit too cramped for everyday use and I ended up picking the RX8. Fingers crossed your new car is more about tweaking than fixing, and if you get bored you now have all the knowledge and passion to find your way into an excellent FN2!

Firstly what a stunning looking 350z and secondly what bad luck to have a nice car already but hit it's limit on spends and repairs , i'm at the same sort of pathway at the minute i've had my type s nearly 12 months and love it but loved my old 5 door till some chump wrote it off but although it felt a step up i've replaced all the shocks springs brakes and discs a new drivers seat new grill new headlights and it still looks like a 2007 car with supermarket trolley dings here and there i've also just fully serviced it with Honda fluids and a pipercross panel filter and the car is still worth the same money it was 12 months ago and so i don't want to spend any more on it (there's a decent set of bola wheels i have my eyes on) so i'm now thinking maybe i should just buy a type r and put the bolas on that and know that the car is worth the spend plus those Nissans look really tempting haha

Thank you! So in love with the Fairlady, such a beautiful and fun car. Running costs are higher, of course, but worth every penny! I've never had a car that needed high octane petrol before.

By the way, do you still have the RX-8 or was that was your car before your FN2? @Tridi is considering getting one in the future so I'm sure he has some questions for you!
