Hey Folks,

Well, I thought I would give it a few weeks to post on Civinfo regarding my Type R after collecting her on the 1st September so that it would give me time to get use to the car and put a few miles on her.

Currently now showing over 2000miles on her, first impressions are very very good.

Subtle when driven gently but just awesome when pushed, I found yesterday on some B roads heading towards Harrogate from Wetherby (if anyone knows it?) that the car wants to be pushed more and more around corners.

The engine makes me smile everytime, even with just enough throttle to see you in VTEC the difference in engine note is grin factor 10! :)

Driving her sensibly with the odd 'im having fun so there' returns 33-34mpg (managed to push 40mpg when I was running her in) is very good to me, pity fuel prices are so dear :(

The ride is bob on, although the gearing is a little short to what I'm used to but the clutch feels well balanced with a snappy and precise gearchange.

The few niggles -

Rattles! Rattle from the interior trim where the alarm sensor/reading lights are

Passenger seat back, moves quite a bit causing it to rattle

Middle air vents rattle

Dashboard trim around steering wheel rattle

Gearbox; difficulty in getting it into 3rd gear every so often, i read that it is a double cone for 3rd, im not so sure thats the issue here. It feels like synchro to me, i will live with this until first service to see if things improve

Handbrake, doesn't work all that well unless its pulled up quite high again, i'll let the garage adjust it.

Stone chips!!! Even though i leave a massive gap to the car in front of me, up to 4 seconds on a motorway - im pulling my hair out with finding them on wash day!

And one last little thing, does anyone notice that the rear alloys seem to gather more brake dust than the fronts? After a drive, the alloys are not excessively hot but just wondered about it??

Mods/accessories bought so far: Type R mats (very nice quality) Grill badge now on although i'm still deciding if i should put the Type R stickers on the rear wings?? And I have just bought some rubber mats from Honda to act as my winter mats, again, very good quality plus they gave me a free Type R baseball cap and shoulder bag!! (no, I wont be wearing it in the car although when jogging with it on, I swear I can feel VTEC kick-in....;)) oh and a genuine boot liner.

Future interior mods: either the Ipod connector or the disc changer and the ambient lighting although I have noticed that most fit aftermarket kits.....perhaps somthing to consider.

So, overall really impressed with the Type R i'm so glad I went for the Honda rather than the Clio 200 or a lazy Golf GTI.

Many thanks

Ben.

Nice writeup.

I got the same problem you have on 3rd gear. Just feels like there is a extra step to push it in. Has made me miss it a couple of times making me feel like a complete idiot when i let the clutch out :p

Rear breakdust is normal on these cars with normal pads. Its the VSA "helping" you all the time, even on normal driving. Upgrading rear pads to something a bit harder helps i heard. Can find lots of info on this in the breaks part of the forum.

Enjoy your car!

Ben,

great write up :)

if yours is a brand new spanker then you should have the ambient lighting installed and the cable for your iPod

Had mine 2 weeks and love it, although only managed 350 miles so far

Also agree on the Mats, they are worth the money and look great

Cheers for the replies folks, much appreicated.

I travel from the Midlands to Harogate twice a week with a 88 mile journey each day.....a lot of miles but makes it more interesting in the Honda! Probably should have got a diesel but I had the VTEC bug!

Nope, no ambient lighting in mine, it is brand new but not the 09spec so I dont get the extra goodies but i got such a good deal on it plus I managed to avoid scrapping my Rover in, way to good for the scrapyard!

Thanks once again

Passenger seat back, moves quite a bit causing it to rattle

--
I had a similar problem in my civic (only type s) but found when the passenger seat was far back the seat belt buckle was catching on the latch to move the seat and causing a very annoying rattle every time i went over a bump. Not sure if its the same case in your type r but if it is its a quick easy fix just to unhook the buckle off the latch.

hope this helps

Thanks for the tip but this is what i intially thought it was with the buckle. When your driving and you look at the back of the seat, there is quite a bit of movement there, obviosuly this stops as soon as I have a passenger.

Cheers anyway though :)

Hi,

Congrats on the CTR - sounds like you're enjoying it.

Passenger seat back, moves quite a bit causing it to rattle

I had/have similiar problem on my FN2 and a previous EP3. Have found that if you adjust the passenger seat backrest back a couple inches so that its greater than a 90 degree angle it gets rid of the rattle and stops excessive movement.

Brilliant, will try this later today :)

Thanks,

Ben.

Ps: Is it me or do Audi drivers have a real problem with Type R's? Its the 5th one in two days that 'HAS' to get in front of me even when I have no interest in driving like a sales rep.
I never got this in 10 years of driving my Rover! (Rant Over!)

Blimey, I need to drive her more :D... any excuse, ey?!

I have 'popped' into Honda 5 times now, and almost had a 'pop' at one of the chaps, such are the issues with mine - but now I'm going to ask them to sort out the window, then leave the other stuff - because all of this is getting, too inconvenient!

It's not you. Had mine for three weeks and I've been seeing a lot of insane driving from BMW and Audi drivers. This wednesday for instance I was on my way home from work on a 30 mph single lane road through a residential area. Was driving at the end of a column (which was moving at about 25 mph) of trucks and cars with a traffic light coming up so no point in overtaking.

Then the BMW behind me decides he has to overtake me just to prove a point. Despite the oncoming van. He couldn't have been more than a few inches away from a head on collision.

Ok, you're a suicidal imbecile driving a BMW, point taken.
