HI Everyone,

Finally bit the bullet and bought a Type R FN2. I've had it since Saturday and absolutely love it.

Its a 59 plate, Milano Red with the Rage Alloys and Nav.

Got a few plans for it. Not a massive modifier, kind of going for OEM plus.

There's a few niggles that need sorting and few preventative things I wanted to do.

Rough List
Drivers side sun visor mirror is cracked.
Currently has Fly Eye which I'll remove
Osram Night Breakers
Paint polish and waxed
Interior Deep Clean
Reversing Camera
Valve Clearances
Aux Belt (debating, it doesn't look worn or frayed)
Spark Plugs (not sure when they were last done)
New Airfilter housing
Fuel filler cap is flaked and peeling so need to refurbish

No still got the 2.2. To be honest, I don't think we'll ever sell it. It just does everything so well.

I had a mint condition Celica T-Sport (thunder grey). It was stunning. But needed to start dropping my son to nursery so need something practical quickly... ended up buying an E60 530i. Again a beautiful car, but just not exciting and very very thirsty.

So I got thinking and started my hunt for an FN2. Surely the best compromise of the rev happy Celica and practicality of the E60.

I'll deffo give them a shout. I was thinking of using these guys

Midland Honda Services

I gave them a call and gave me loads of free advice on the purchase. Was literally on the phone for 30 mins.

Said £75 for valve clearances which I thought was good.

Do you have any one you'd recommend for window tinting and detailing?

That's incredible. Will give them a call in the morrow. Just having a look at their face book page. Looks like alot of happy customers. Cheers for the recommendation.

Tbh I love to have a go at detailing. I'm trying to get a friend of mine to start a business.

£45 sounds far too cheap for an FN2. I recently did mine and the gasket set alone was 20 quid. Add in the time for removing the bulkhead panels, etc etc and there's a couple of hours labour in there too. I could see it if the spark plugs were getting changed at the same time (same panels are removed) but just to do the clearances £45 sounds way cheap. All imho of course :wink3:

That is one thorough list of operations.
Everything you need for basic maintenance is on it.
I'd go for it. I'm not much at par with your prices but 320 quid for all that doesn't sound too much.

Do tell us how it goes.

Why does anyone pay a garage to replace air & pollen filters?
Buy & fit them yourself and save a bit - it is so simple on an 8G Civic.

Agreed, that sounds fair for the amount of work. But I don't think Honda would do the valves for £100 if they were not getting the service work. I think the £100 would only work as an add on to the service. Kinda if they are doing the spark plugs then they are nearly into the valves anyway, but if not it could be more expensive. Don't know for sure, again just mho.

It was even simpler on a 7th gen but a lot of people wouldn't bother to do it. Anyway, pretty straightfoward job for anyone with the basic skills and desire...
