Hi All, my names lee just recently bought a Honda Civic 2006 I-ctdi type s so I thought I'd join the forum. Since I've owned the car ive only managed to drive it for around 5 minutes lol and since then it's been a complete nightmare, when I drove the car away from the dealership after driving up the road the cars engine died at 60mph on a dual carrageway causing the oil light, asc light, engine management light and finally the glow plug light to come on.

The car refused to start for 5 minutes then started only to do it again on the journey back to the dealer. Since then the car has been with the dealers garage but they say they are unable to find a fault. They have told me that they won't tun diagnostics on the car as there are now no warning lights, also I think being a ford dealer they don't have the appropriate software to do so. After 8 days they say they are now waiting for honda to give them the values to carry out a leak off test?

I have phoned honda myself and found out that the car had been taken to them in January for a suspected misfuel had its filters changed then was back in February to get a fuel rail sensor and fault codes removed as the cars engine was intermittently cutting out.

As it stands the dealership tell me they won't find me another car or give me my money back so I can find another civic until the fault is found, which leaves me in limbo

Sounds like you've had a right 'mare of time and with the fault not being rectified the stealer is taking the Michael by not offering you another car or refund. Keep on at 'em.

Before you bought it did the stealer tell you about the previous fault?

There's another thread on here that has a stealer up to similar antic's, let me see if I can find it.

I hope you get it fixed pronto.

Hi farqui, no they told me the car was mechanically sound, just feel like their dragging their feet Atm waiting to do a test that could still prove inconclusive, better off taking it to a honda dealer and getting the car plugged in.

Yeah, a Honda diagnosis sounds better than what you've got thus far.

Have they at least looked for any codes from on-board the ECU?

Are there any Honda independents/specialists nearby? - they might be more use.

Yes the previous work on the car was dealt with by honda cardiff, which is 5 minutes away from the ford dealer which I won't name and shame, I spoke with them and got the info on the cars past, they said they were more than happy to look at the car if the dealership would let them. But every time I've asked they have refused.

Just though I'd add I'm not disrespecting honda's reliability in any way as I work in the quality dept for a company owned by honda lol we make most of the pressed parts for the civic, crv and jazz and new type r. So I thought it was about time I bought one, maybe not just this one

Welcome. Man what a night mare. Given the fact you OWN the car, I would bring it to the independent Honda dealer for a conclusive opinion. Ask a local lawyer about this!
