Have had one of these for more than 6 months now. I used to have a Talex Lite and before that a couple of different Road Angels. I generally plug it in to my PC fortnightly to ensure it's up to date.
We have had a number of temporary speed (road safety) cameras on our parkways since November for necessary roadworks, hence the reason for updating. It became apparent that NONE of these temp cameras were recognised so I emailed Novus as there is a permanent camera warning within a mile of my house which alarms on my system but has never existed. I have told them about both situations.

Novus replied today acknowledging my email but apart from asking for the exact location of the non existant camera totally ignored 2 vital questions
  • Do you actually give live updates
  • Why aren't the temporary (roadwork) cameras being updated when they have been there since November
Does anyone have anything concrete to show that these updates are being carried out because, at the moment I have little confidence in my unit
When I say temporary cameras, I'm not meaning the cameras that turn up in the police vans at the side of the road every now and again, those are a regular event and now well known, I am specifically talking about the cameras sited near or within roadworks.

I'm running a TalexLite still.

I did download the Novus Delta update as a test a few months ago but took it off as it was missing a few fixed cameras I pass every day.

2 of them had been in existence for over a year so I lost confidence.

Talex had the cameras on it's database within 3 to 4 weeks of installation.

As a side note, on the M25 Western section I've noticed some camera flashing around junctions 15 and 12 anti-clockwise. This is new as in the dark they are quite easily spotted. The latest Talex download (0015) is now warning of these cameras.

That's intersting and, despite the emails I have sent Novus, I have not had any replies... Hmmmm!!!

I wonder if Trading Standards would interested in the false advertising?

Has anybody else had issues with this unit?

Funnily enough Talex have been threatened similarly on other forums.

I just wish the PGPSW database would link to a SCD as that database is arguably the best in the business as it's kept current by thousands of members.

If the Talex stopped working I would likely get a cheap TT and put the above database on that. Doesn't need to be in view as I have the built-in SatNav.

I have a Novus GPS Rider and have had weekly updates for the last 18 months. However today the website link I use to update no longer exists.
http://www.novusauto.com/login.php

It would seem that updates are no longer available.

I have found it (and still do) extremely reliable apart from the M25 variable speed limits at roadworks.

Not at all surprised. I ditched my Talex ages ago and I now use the PGPSW cameras that so far have proved 100% accurate.

Loaded onto a Garmin 2597LMT via my own bespoke app that allows me more control over the warnings (or not).

Ive highjacked this thread, hope Ime forgiven.

My two Novus speed camera detectors need the data updating, didn't realise that the site has gone as its been some time since I last updated them - so much for the 'lifetime updates'. Didn't realise it meant the lifetime of Novus!!!

Anyway, can anyone suggest a way of updating them even if I pay, Ive tried emailing Novus Automotive but had no reply.

The units are a Novus Rider and a Novus Delta plus.

Thanks

Novus have ceased for quite a while now hence the lack of updates. I'm not sure whether Talex are still in business but there was some 'issues' surrounding that.

As above the best way to ensure you stay up to date is to consider either a dedicated unit from one of the big boys like Snooper or get a regular SatNav and use the cameras from PGPSW, as I do.

I've now got a Garmin 2597LMT and I use my own app, pictured previously above, and further customise my warnings by converting the CSV to GPX.

Thanks for that, got sat nav built into car so this was the ideal 'addon', now not to be.

Managed to get a link to the last update {jan 2013] so will have to risk that for a while.

A few 'areas' are reintroducing cameras and converting them to digital so consider a more up to date solution.
