I usually drive my Civic at 65mph on the Motorway. My average is 39mpg over all. Here's the odd thing, I have been giving it the gun the last couple of days due to having to get home earlier. Fast being 75 to 80mph, the mph has improved by .6mph over 25 miles...... How strange is that?

I've noted I get better mpg if I go at 65-70mph rather than 57-60mph... I've got the 2.2 EX.

With a mixture of my driving to and from work (70mile round trip) twice a week or so and the missus short runs to the shops etc I'm getting between 41-42mpg shown on the computer. I think the car has a relatively small tank though as I seem to be putting fuel in it everytime I get in it....
Previous car was a 53 plate laguna 1.9 diesel which averaged 42mpg shown on the computer but I could get 650 miles out of it without too much extra careful driving on my behalf.

But the Civic is so much more fun to drive I think I may be encouraged to have more fun and less mpg when driving....
I noticed strange mpg on my 2.2! 68 mph was ok although anything over 70 would reduce it quite a bit!!
Heh, looks like Honda have a sense of humour.......
some times the engine works more efficent at certain revs( therefore speed) so this may be your answer :D

Heh, one can only hope. I need an excuse to speed :D
I get 42-44 mpg on a long run if I set the cruise control to 80mph, but 38-40 at 70 ????
Are you going from brim-to-brim comparisons, or the trip computer? The trip computer tells lies, lol.
Not sure that this is completely relevant but I was quite disappointed with a journey to and from Devon a few months ago (about 450 return for me). With the cruise set at 70, I got a tad under 40 (39.6 using brim to brim).

I've had both worse and better than this since.

One explanation might be that the Cruise Control powers the car up long inclines perhaps using more gas than a light foot on the accelerator.

My suggestion is that at the higher speed in 6th the turbo is kicking in gently, from about 1800 revs, (recorded 65mph approx.) Before 1800 turbo not spinning properly. I can't say this mpg difference is so obvious with mine, but at the slightly higher speed 68-70 recorded mine doesn't seem to drink much more.
65 miles is too low for 6th gear i would say i get best mpg at 68milea an hour as soon as i go down as speen the car will actually burn more
