Hi everyone, can you help with this problem.

My wife has just come back from the dealership after a fault light appeared on her 55 2.2i CDTi Civic.
They have advised us of the following:
Oil warning light - Requires software update £75 plus vat
ECT Sensor 2, pin has corroded in switch - New Switch £140 Plus vat
If switch cannot be removed new loom to be installed £1180 plus vat !!!!!!

Is this the right course of action as I simply cannot afford a new loom!!

Please help

Thank you kindly

it is becoming more frequent on 56 reg civics....petrol and diesel. problem being honda will not supply a repair kit and its a fairly labour intensive job never mind the cost of the loom itself to be fitted. somthing i would suggest for people who own civics of this age ( later civics had more grease applied to the sensor and connector) is to remove the connector at the base of the radiator. clean the connector out with carb cleaner or similar and apply lithium grease arround the connector and inside the sensor. this will stop any corrosion, which is causing the problem in the first place!
