In December we bought a new Honda Civic (we are Dutch and live in the Netherlands) with a build in SD satnav. Soon we discovered that the map of the satnav is very old, probably older than April 2012. I know that because one Motorway that was opened in April 2012 is not on our satnav map (and various speed limit changes are not yet on the map either). The dealer says that there a no newer maps available and as soon there is one, we can buy an update. I asked him to check that with Honda Netherlands, because I think I should get some discount or even a new map for free. A new map will cost us about £ 150, I think.

Now I am curious. If you buy a new Civic in the UK, do you get a new map or are you all struggling with old maps too in Britain?

I bought my 2013 Civic in March last year and the Maps as far as I could tell were very upto date, A lot of recent road changes in my local town were correct on the system.

no issues with the map in my October 2013 Civic. Haven't found any missing roads yet.

My Dec 2012 map is a little out of date. Hardly notice it, but it misses the odd roundabout and there'a a whole bypass missing in Cheshire.

Would have liked to get it updated, but not for the £200 Honda charge!

Ok. Thanks for your replies. I think you have more recent maps over there. This will give me some ammo when I will phone up the dealer this week.

The Maps in SatNavs tend to be quite a few months or even a year out of date.
I read somewhere that it's not just a matter of updating the maps themselves but the companies need to calibrate all the new and changed roads to ensure that the routing algorithms are correct.

what is your cars Vin?
do not give us the lat 6 digits.
you may have a 2012 model or it was sitting in a lot for a while.
My SavNav was not build in off factory, but build in by the dealer. In Holland it is an option on this model. But you pointed me into the right direction by that question, as the satnav may have been on the shelf for a long time. Here is the information of the system:
Map version: 12-13YEAR
Program Version: 104
Unit Code: QY5017HB
Serial Number: 00007351
It looks to me that it is a rather low serial number, which suggests it is an old system.

That is very true Kremmen, but a few months or even a year is not the same as almost two years (21 months).
Here is an article about the opening of the A74 on the 4th of April 2012. It is in Dutch but you will be able to read the first line: “A74 bij Venlo geopend” = A74 near Venlo open (we use A for motorways, not M, like in the UK).
And because this important motorway is not on my satnav, it must be a very old map.

I remember the dreaded mother in law moving into a new house some years ago when I had a TomTom. It took them 3 years before it finally appeared.

Not a main road though so probably low priority

I think that the inability to find the mother in laws house is a tremendous optional extra :)

Just received an email from the dealer. He writes that he contacted Honda Netherlands and they say that our savnav has the latest maps and that an update will not make any difference.
But since the dealer values good service the first update will be free of charge for us.

Not a good job for Honda Netherlands, but well done Honda dealer!

So it seems that all Civics in Holland are driving with an out of date map.

Buy the way I think new maps are € 175 in Holland ( about £ 145) and £ 200 in the UK. How is that possible?

Got my free update yesterday! Installed it and the first 200 miles proved that many changes have been made on the new map. The road I missed before (as mentioned above) is now on the map and all speed limits I saw were correct.
I am happy with my Honda dealer!

BTW The map version is now 13-14YEAR.
