W Reg 1.4i Civic Sport - I ran the battery completely flat & now the orange engine malfunction light stays on.
Book says it indicates a possible emissions control systen problem.Independant dealer done a diagnostic and he says the problem comes up as rapid voltage loss in the 9 year old battery that now needs replacing. - has anyone had a check /resetting of the orange engine malfunction indicator light on the dash - if so what was the problem??

hiya that EML can come on for lots of reasons, not necessarly bad, general rule of thumb isif the engine will start and drive ok WITHOUT running lumpy misfiring etc it is safe to drive without damaging the engine. The idea being that the engine management system will put you in limp home mode just so your not sitting at the side of the road waiting for recovery! In this case the engine ECU saw low battery voltage and put your light on!
Your average battery life is around 3 to 5 yrs I do see them make 10 occasionally, yours has done quite well!
