hi my 1.8ex it was my first time in ownership revving it all the way to 6k rpm plus in first gear off from red light. when i did i noticed it felt like the car cut out /stalled, as i looked down at the cluster i saw the rpm counter springing back from 6k . is that how it works , it feels as if engine is cut to stop it going to red line / doing damage to engine?

If by cutout/stalled you mean sudden loss of acceleration when you reach the rev limiter, then yes this is supposed to happen.

Won't do any damage to the engine, it's there to prevent damage. Not to mention vtec engines are designed to be revved

in my reckless youth i used to hold my vti on the limiter as the intake used to make it sound like WAR

rev limiter.. You will do some damage but not straight away so best not to keep hitting it. Change gear just before you hit the limit...After a while you will want a Type-R

It should go to 7k rpm for redline on the 1.8. When it hits the limiter the fuel is cut which stops you accelerating.

+1 I was thinking the same, mine goes up to approx 6900 rpm, so if yours is hitting the limiter at 6000, it seems a bit low.

I've had my FK2 for two years now and never had the balls to bring up just one rev light as I fear I might break my little engine

Do it... you will be surprised how much fun it is and you wont break it... the rev limiter wont let you.

The engine is designed as a high revving motor... It takes some getting used too, but the power is at the upper end.
