Hi All, I've just had my MOT today. It's failed on parking brake efficiency, even though I've had the brake pads, disc's, calipers and parking brake cable all replaced a few months back. It seems the parking brake will not even hold on a hill. Any advice on what the problem is?

Maybe you just need to tighten the handbrake, does it feel quite slack when you pull it up?

Hi, it's does take about 7 clicks in total. But does not hold on any hill.
That'll be why it's failed then, sometimes rear discs and handbrakes can be a bit of an @rse.

They're meant to be changed at fairly regular intervals as they can stretch over time...If I'm ever on a slope I'll park it in gear also as extra support so I never rely solely on the handbrake.

At dealer service they always took up the slack that stretching cables cause.

Worked out it was the rear pads not aligning with the caliper correctly. Holds on the steepest of hills now. Thanks for help.
yes very important to get pimple lined up with the slots in the piston and very easy to get wrong when fitting pads.
if you left too long it would chew up the inner pad.
