you've probably been in the vtec quite a lot :)
its not a vtec system like the type-r
on the 1.4 and 1.8 it works to save fuel so not to give extra bhp.
Sorry to shatter the dreams, but still, happy and safe motoring!!
Enjoy the car, you've chosen the only right color ;)

cheers i thought it started at around 4.5k
you live and learn
i thought it started picking up a bit earlyier than that
you can tell its got some get up and go about it brilliant for a 1.4
and very quiet im ashamed to say i stalled the car 3 times so far beacuse i couldnt hear the engine

yes, i've heared and read some great things about the 1.4 vtec. If it was available back in 2007 i would have certainly gone for that engine.

Do the newer Civics have one of these features?
Have had this on previous cars, and if ever there is a feature that means well, but in reality is completely useless most of the time - then this is it.
They seem to work purely on engine revs, but cant take into account the load on the engine and gearbox due to the gradient of the road.

Yes it can! I have a bridge over a dual carriageway on the way home. In fourth at 45 mph, on the flat road bit, the 'gear up arrow' is lit. When I'm starting to go uphill, the 'gear up arrow' is turned off. When the road starts to level, the arrow lights up again.

However, on that same bit of road, in fifth, same speed, the arrow stays lit. Pedal to the metal, speed drops, but it still wants to get in sixth. Ah well...
