An odd one here but an issue I've been having on and off for the past year in the colder months (this year hasn't been too bad).

When I start the car there's usually a click when the power steering engages as the ligh goes out. Sometimes that click doesn't happen and there's no pOwer steering and the light stays on. If I turn the key right back to turn the car completely off and then forward again it usually kicks in.

Any ideas at all? I had it looked at and thy said they fixed it but then it was back he next day and they said they were going to charge me for the time to disassemble the entire power steerin assy - too much IMO. I'm looking to sell soon and I want to get this sorted before I do!!

I had this problem too earlier in the year. Strangely, again when we had a cold snap. Luckily I bought from a main dealer and it was covered. Saw the invoice, and it was approximately £350 to replace the eps 'ecu'

Good work, I'll give them a call armed with the fact that it's a known fault. I've already been fobbed off with a 'we'll have to disassemble the entire console that'll be £1000 thankyouplease'.

Hi, I am new to the forum. I have just recently purchased a 2007 2.2 CDTI EX Civic and the EPS warning light has been intermittently coming up making the steering of the vehicle pretty much impossible and very dangerous when it comes and you are driving at speed. The only way to get rid of it is to switch off the engine and re-start which temporarily gets rid of the EPS warning. However this is happening more and more and it takes 2 and sometimes 3 re-starts to get the EPS back and working. I read all the threads, printed out some of the posts, the wiki page on the subject, the vosa recall and the Honda service bulletin posted relating to the fault. I took this to a Honda dealer in Bedford and they plug in there diagnostic equipment and confirmed that they could see that the EPS warning light had come on a number of times. They also confirmed a DTC code something like DTC 32-01. They cleared down the codes and told me that unless the EPS warning light was on they could not really diagnose the problem. I did show them all the documents I printed out but they said that if I wanted them to replace the EPS control unit they would charge. They did refer me to Honda UK for assistance though. I called Honda UK and registered a complaint with the customer relations team and I did receive a callback. I told them about the recall, the posts on the forum and the conversation with the Bedford dealer. Basically they said that my car was not part of the recall which I knew. I pointed out that it was the same problem and the person told me that the EPS control unit in my 2007 model was different to the 2005 & 2006 which were part of the recall. Despite me stating this fault was to coincidental and referring to the posts on the honda forums they are not prepared to offer any financial assistance. I am now in the situation where I either wait for the EPS light to come on and then attempt to drive to a Honda dealer and show them so they can diagnose the fault (which is what they said they needed to happen) or based on the posts get the EPS controller unit replaced at my cost and see if that sorts out the problem. Has anyone with a 2007 Civic had the same problem and managed to get assistance from Honda?
