Press ignition and everything turns off!

Hi there,
First post on here, just getting a bit fed up with some starting/ignition issues. I'll give a short history and hopefully someone might be able to help.

Car: 2006 EX 2.2 diesel
Bought the car July 2011. No problems until a flat battery August 2012. Replaced the battery (not sure if it was original or not unfortunately) with Bosch S3. Fixed and fine.

May 2013 installed Alpine CDE-W235BT 2-din head unit - have spoken to loads of different people who seem to think this should not be a problem. Still no problems until August 2013 when I went on holiday for 2 weeks, came back and battery was flat as a pancake again. I expected the battery to last longer obviously so borrowed and charger and got it going again. (experienced all the fast ticking and flashing I have seen people describe on forums)

Between then and now, December 2013, I have struggled through charging the battery but eventually the cold weather killed it pretty much every morning so I cashed in on the guarantee (3 years) and got a new one. That was seven days ago, 16.12.13. All worked fine though I didn't use the car over the weekend.

Now I seem to have a new problem! This morning remote locking worked and when I put the key in the ignition and turned it to my delight all the usual lights and beeps sounded (so I assume the battery is ok for now). Pressed the starter however and everything just went off, literally like turning off a light! Remote locking didn't work etc. Waited 10 minutes and tried again. Weirdly the locks worked but the ignition did exactly the same thing.

Is this the immobiliser? I have zero experience with them. I did install the battery myself though I'm quite certain the keys weren't in the ignition at the time (and it's fairly difficult to mess up isn't it?)

Anyone who can shed some light would be much appreciated (apologies for lengthy first post). Thanks all

Had the same thing - it was just the battery connector being loose.
Doors and lights worked, but when trying to start, the power could not be delivered through the loose connector.

Tightened it up and worked alright afterwards. Not sure if it's the case, but worth checking out.

I'd check out the battery connections too.

Maybe also check out the parasitic drain from the battery with the ignition off... maybe something (the head unit?) is unexpectedly draining the battery?

Excellent advice and very quick too and it worked! Thanks very much.

I have to say I did think the headunit may be draining it but time will tell now. While I was rooting around I did decide to disconnect the Honda HFT after reading around on here.

Thanks very much again, big weight off (obviously installing a new battery is more tricky than I thought! **eats humble pie**)
