Mostly sharing with the forum as yet another breadcrumb for this increasingly common issue on 8G Honda Civics.
The dreaded rear axle rusting strikes another FN2. I have just heard from a garage that "there are chunks of it missing". The boot floor is also badly corroded, and "needs welding" (my efforts to stop the boot leaks have been... not very successful). Shocks, springs and brake lines are all corroded as well. The estimate was "thousands" - we didn't go into the details for reasons explained below. I forgot to ask for photos but I don't doubt the garage, they're a trusted performance shop.
As for the next steps, I hesitate to put out my decision-making process out here in public but here goes: I have a second car (BMW Z4 E89), I work from home, I'll be moving abroad in July time and the MOT is in August. So I'll leave it be, use it only when I need the boot space or extra seats and then either sell it in July as a project car or for parts. I will be sad to see it go in general, especially since this is the first car I've ever bought and a fun one that's served me well over the last 8+ years. As a parting gift to the car, it's getting the valve clearances done
