Frosty mornings have revealed what I think maybe a problem with my rear heated window, I think it is on permamently when the engine is running.

When there is frost on the rear window, without the button pressed the frost begins to melt around the elements in the glass.

Does anyone elses do this?

Yes, it's normal as far as I know.

This is not documented in the owners manual.
The orange light on the dashboard switch does not illuminate when this happens.
On other cars it is controled by the switch on the dashboard, but does have an automatic timeout function.

Yep, which means i have sod all radio reception until it is switched off again :( If you press the button on the dash twice (once to put the light on and then again to switch it off) the screen then switches off again. Another of hondas little quirks, but you still gotta love 'em! :)

But only on the 2.2 diesel.
And some 1.8's.

Mine didn't do this from new, but after being serviced (can't remember if it was year 1 or year 2), The heated rear window would come on automatically in low temperatures, in the same way as the diesel.

I checked with the garage (Honda main dealer), and they reckoned there had been a software update applied to the car when it was being serviced.

Edit: found my post from 2008 in another thread about the auto/non-auto of the heated rear window. Car was serviced in March 2008, and the following winter noticed the auto function of the heated rear window.

The temperature that is is triggered to automatically come on does appear to vary. Several people (including myself) have seen it's effects when the outside temperature is < 10C

Probably an analogue thermistor somewhere meaning it varies from car to car.

I saw your post by chance & wanted to say thanks for asking this question! Mine does the same & I was all set to embark on a "stuck relay" investigation on the weekend! Didn't think to check the forum first... :facepalm:

Cheers guys, I think this is a brilliant idea, never knew it came on automatically, saves a trip to the stealers and showing myself up...........
