Hi
Just wondered if anyone can explain to me why there is a button on the dash of my 11 plate civic EX GT that deactivates the rear parking sensors?

I hate to think what might happen if this gets turned off accidently..........:D

Surely the rear parking sensors only operate when you are in reverse gear anyway?

On my Volvo I also have front parking sensors, and for these the switch makes sense, for example in traffic when too close to the car in front or when snow is making them beep while driving.

I would guess if your towing a caravan or trailer you don't really want them bleeping away when reversing.

I agree that there could be reasons for turning it off ( trailer/ caravan etc) but when you have always expected it to warn you when you are reversing and then it doesnt because the missus has switched it off for some reason then there could be a problem.

Anyway, how many civics tow caravans or trailers, dont think ive seen any!! It just doesnt seem to go with the civic image............

I see where you're coming from mate but IMO, if someone's THAT reliant on reversing sensors, then they shouldn't be driving at all.

haha - upopup I agree with you - just be aware too that after a service, they may switch it off! For reasons best known to themselves.

I think it was my first 12k service and got the car back, then reversed straight up my drive and almost through my garage doors as they had switched it off..familiarity breeds contempt as they say

Thanks mate, but as I drive class 1 hgv for a living and can thread the trailer down a narrow alley first time, i dont think my reversing capabilities can be in question, as usual you are missing the point!

I also turn it off when driving on unlit roads / motorways as the super bright led does not dim with the dash lights and annoys me lol (great design there Honda!(
Fortunately for me the steering wheel obscures it :D

as far as I know, the only switch Honda have is to turn off the FRONT sensors, usually on a CR-V. Rear sensors are only activated once in reverse gear and if you have a towbar kit fitted, the electrics 'know' a trailer/caravan is connected and shut off anyways.

I wasn't questioning your driving skill at all. I agree with you in that there should be some kind of warning to let you know the system's off.

I merely meant that people in general shouldn't come to rely on systems that are far from fool-proof. No offence meant :)

My appologies, think I over reacted , But the point that im trying to make is that if you get to rely on the ' beep beep, when reversing in tight spots and someone can/has switched the system off then you could hit something, I can see no reason for the switch on rear sensors.
I think that when front sensors are fitted then it is necessary

I see youve not had the faulty fuse box yet in your list of faults:D
Fuse box otherwise know as the multiplex, had it changed twice!
